I think choosing Daniel Craig is an interesting pick, but I don't think he's the best choice (especially being only 5'11" and blond) nor will work out in the long term. He'll probably be another Timothy Dalton. It also doesn't help that they changed his appearance for the fliming from the press conference and PR photos. He looked better and more suave in those pics than from what I saw during the location shots. I actually have more of a problem with the casting of M and Felix. Sorry, but Felix wasn't a black dude and it doesn't make sense to use Judi Dench again.

they wanted the film to be convincing sodidn't do the Hollywood thing and go purely by looks, they went by what's known as acting ability, something the assembled cast has. Watch Layer Cake and Ali (or to save some time The Visiting) to see what i meen.

Of course it is. when i saw craig in layer cake, the part where he gets the gun and moves around with it it was obvious he was going to be the best bond there ever was.

What's funny about that scene is that Graig's character carried on a bit naf (pretending to be Bond-ish?), but Colm Meaney's character uncermoniously yanks the gun out of his hand. Quite funny.

My sister just made an interesting comment about Craig when she saw the trailer. She is a huge fan of James Bond in all of his incarnations and even wrote her Master's Thesis on Ian Fleming's treatment of women in the Bond books. She is the most knowledgable person on the character that I know.

When I showed her the trailer, she gave a bemused smile and said "It's as if they picked Robert Shaw to play Bond instead of Red Grant". I wanted to ask if she thought it was a good or bad thing but she left for work. But it is an interesting way to look at it. I can definitely see a similarity.

Personally, I think Craig is an interesting choice and he obviously has that sense of menace that seems to be missing in the recent Bonds. But will he be TOO much of a thug? Since my favorite Bond is Timothy Dalton, I think that erring on the side of the scary asskicker is a good thing, but I will reserve judgement.

I Think Daniel Criag is the right man for the job.
And i`m very sure now, i`ve seen the Making of Bahamas video and the teasers.
Bond is back, and he is blond, no problem.

I personally was pretty excited when I first heard Daniel Craig would be Bond-- having it be more of a somewhat no name guy only intrigued me, made me wonder what does this guy have that we haven't seen before. I'm looking forward to his performance...

Barbara Brocolli is very influential in the choosing of the new Bond.

She not only evaluated each candidate on their acting ability, but as a woman, was interested in their looks.

She is quoted as saying that Hugh Jackman was never in the frame, because he was not manly enough.

Daniel Craig gets the nod, at least in part, because Barbara thinks he is hot!!!!

Well, that's good news then, as it was her mother Dana Broccoli's opinion of Sean Connery's extraordinary sex appeal that won him the part back in the 1960's.

have you noticed how ini the earlier pics from Prague (March time) his hair was darker, I wonder if they are going the full Blond route?

never understood the furore over the colour of DC s hair and no one mentions Connery's rug

I don't know. Starting to get a little confused.
Must be from the lighting. Sometimes his hair looks lighter, sometimes darker. It actually varies from picture to picture.
I do recall though, he seemed to have darker hair during the second press conference.
But I see no problem in it. As long as the hair keeps the same tone throughout the movie, don't really care if it's lighter or darker.

I have found it very interesting, reading some of the opinions on Daniel Craig as the new James Bond 007. Personally, I like the choice. I like most of cast.

blond hair, black hair, auburn hair, or brown rug. i would have liked craig's hair to be a little bit longer and look a little less like he got his last cut from a blind man, but i don't really care about the color. as far as craig's ability to "be" bond, if he can carry it off, more power to him. he wasn't my first choice (or my second or third or fourth), but he does look very convincing in the action snippets we've seen. i'm still playing the old "wait and see... give him a chance" game.

i still say he looks more like the villian's henchman than my idea of bond.

just as an aside... everyone connected with the film raves about how great daniel craig is as bond... the best ever... yadda, yadda. from michael wilson all the way down to the little guy who drives the caterer's truck, and they wouldn't lie, would they? after all, what possible motivation could they have to drive people into the theater to see casino royale?

i've followed bond since 1964 and i want to see the franchise continue to flourish, so i'm hoping for the best. but don't be too surprised if casino royale doesn't live up to the box office draw of brosnan's bond films.

If they didn't think he was doing well as Bond, then they would say something like "Craig is working hard to make the best film he can, he's a good actor and he's doing well" not "He's great, one of the best Bonds"

i hope you're right... i really do.

i hope that michael wilson didn't screw up by dumping brosnan one movie too soon. i also hope that after they're done "returning to his roots" that the bond character in # 22 will be a little more familiar to those of us who have supported the franchise for decades.

That is my biggest concern. I want Bond to be the Bond I've always loved...I just don't know how I'd accept a completely different character.

Personally I dont like Craig. He looks like a stiff breeze will blow him over. Why not get a better actor like Brian Blessed. Now that guy can yell. Thats what you really want an obese bearded man yelling at you for ninety minutes. Give him some wellington boots and a a green flashing eyeball in one eye and youve got your new james bond.

Well, I don't own SONY stock so how it does at the box office isn't going to have much effect on me one way or the other. However, from the footage seen in the trailer, bits seen in the 'making of' featurettes, the initial teaser posters, interviews, and the cast list, and people talking about the script-- I can honestly say that I am Really Excited about this new James Bond film. It sounds like the best since OHMSS. As a matter of fact, I joined this community because I was so excited about CASINO ROYALE after being bored senseless for decades by the Bond series.

(Only to find out that buzzkills are almost more common than hydrogen in Bond fandom.)

As original and unique as I would like to think I am there are millions of others out there just like me. So if I'm excited by CASINO ROYALE, millions of others will be too and to a similiar degree when they hear about it.

I'm not totally sure about Craig. He is a great actor. I'll hold off all judgements until I see the movie. I just wish that he would have darkened his hair.

It wouldn't look too natural. It actually could look worse.
It's fine just the way it is.
