Thanks Trempo.

CH didn't have the specifics. Best to wait for IFP to tell us, I think. :)

I have no idea what the "something soon" is, but I'm pretty sure it's Young Bond related.

Doublenoughspy just checked out the D.C. signing details with he store itself and it's at 7PM, not 6.

I know the Young Bond site had the time of the LA signing wrong, so it's a good idea to call and confirm the exact time with the store you're planning to hit.

I also checked with the store about parking and they said there is on-street parking as well as a garage close by that closes at 10.

Man, I am so pumped. I have the store mapquested from both my home as well as my work.

I'll see you there Charles.

According to the Olsson's website the store is located close to the Courthouse Metro stop on Wilson so it should be relatively easy to find.

Here's the store:

Had a great time meeting with Higson. Bond fans present included myself, doublenoughtspy and the webmaster of Dr. Shatterhand's Botanical Garden.

Took googles of pictures...If I can only figure out how to get them off my phone to my computer I'll post some of them. :)

Don't fear though, Charles took pics too.

Charles and I were snapping pictures and firing off questions.

I asked about Martini and other adult Bond references. This is when Higson revealed that the father of a future Bond villain is in SILVERFIN.

How he came up with the title SILVERFIN - the publisher wanted the word Silver in the title and when SILVERFIN was chosen Higson had to go back and work it in somehow.

/spoiler.gif
The serum question - he reiterated that it wears off and does not account for his superhuman deeds later on
/gen_line.gif

and if Higson had researched Sardinia for the second book (he has been there a lot apparently).Higson was trying to come up with a location that had never been used before. He was already well into the second book when he realized it was featured in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME.

Also, we didn't get to ask the two terms thing because Higson covered it in his intro chat. IFP are the culprits. They told Higson that the books all had to start at Eton.

I put this in anotjher thread, but it's worth repeating here, I think.

I was pretty spooked when I first heard the news of a "Young Bond" series. But after reading SilverFin, and especially after hearing Higson speak, I've really become a BIG fan of the Young Bond series. I now have a lot of confidence in IFP and the directions they are taking the literary Bond (much more than Eon and the cinematic Bond

I came to like Young Bond much more than I thought I would. Still a fan of the adult Bond by far, but these books are nothing like I thought they'd be at first, which was pretty bad.

I liked the idea from the start...and felt I was really vindicated in that belief when I read the book.

Those who haven't read SILVERFIN are really missing out.

[quote name='Trempo' date='5 May 2005 - 09:57']Hi Zencat,

you mentioned in your article that "Higson said IFP has many exciting James Bond projects in the works with an announcement of something very cool coming soon. He mentioned a few of these projects, but then cautioned, "I don't know what I can talk about and what I can't."

Can you reveal what projects are in work?

BTW, great article

This is my first time posting here and I would like to take this time and say to doublenoughtspy and DLibrasnow what a pleasure it was to meet them Friday evening at Olsson's Book Store. The hour long book signing with Charlie Higson was memorable and I truly feel that the novels will do very well with the young readers.

I look forward to any future Bond gatherings in the Washington DC area. Lana Wood is in Gaithersburg's Fair Grounds on May 14th and 15th. Perhaps we will run into each other then.

All the best

Nobody seems to be aware of it. I even asked our Lifestyles editor (who should know about book releases) and she gave me this deer-caught-in-headlights-look before asking "They are writing Young Bond books now?"

By the way, great article Charles. I had a great time Friday and it was great to chat with fellow 007 fans in person.

Hi Stuart...welcome to CBn. It's great to see you post here.

Since the Gaithersburg fair grounds are only a couple of miles (literally) from my house I will definately be there this weekend.

I wish I had known when Tanya Roberts and Richard Kiel were there. That would have been interesting to have met Jaws.

A welcome from me as well Stuart.

I'm glad you enjoyed the article Darren - it certainly was a fun time.

What time are you thinking about going to see Lana Wood? And you Stuart?

I'm leaning towards Saturday early.

I'm not too sure what time I'll be going out there. Early Saturday is cutting it close for me since I'm coming from Stafford, VA (where the heck is that you say?), near Fredericksburg.

Most likely I'll be there in the afternoon, with video camera in tow. You might say "We will have 'Plenty' to do."

:)
