I got my DAD DVD just now on my lunch hour. I opted for the Best Buy $14.99 deal with the free Bond Girls Are Forever DVD. Here's my impressions:

The first thing that alarmed me was rather than having the plastic wrapping around the entire set, it came in an exposed cardboard slipcase with a gatefold sleeve, which was held together by velcro. Yuck. The wrapped DVDs themselves are inside the slipcase. The pictures themselves on the box are great, as are the little diamond decorations, but these slipcases tend to deteriorate over time.

The other bad thing was there was a price sticker on the front of the box and tape holding the DVD in the slot from the top and bottom. Fortunately, the tape and sticker will come off easily if you are careful. I peeled mine off sitting in a drive-thru line.

I also stopped into Circuit City and Wal-Mart and they also had the price stickers on the front on their slipcases also. The DVD-ROM Circuit City is offering isn't much. It has the Bond catalogue commercial available on the Bond Girls DVD as well as the Bond vs. Oakenfold video and something else which didn't really jump out at me.

It does have an ice chase featurette, which was on the R2 DVD. DLibraSnow said in another thread that it wasn't a big deal. I asked the clerk if you could just buy those, but he said no. I'd say between that deal and the Best Buy Bond Girls DVD, the latter is the way to go as far as content. Especially since they had a $14.99 price sticker on it, same price as I paid for DAD itself. Besides, those CD-ROMs will likely show up on eBay for $1 someday soon.

Also, be very careful as the widescreen and fullscreen wording is in small letters on the bottom of the slipcase as well as at the top of the wrapped DVD.

My dvd shipped from Amazon yesterday, but I may jet out to Best Buy and pick one up today (and return my Amazon disc when it arrives). That's just too good a price to pass up, and with the Bond Girls dvd...

And I can have it today!

Yeah, I just got mine over lunch, too, and I am back in the computer lab here at WSU! Anyway, this casing is what MGM seems to be going for anymore. The velcro foldout thing is the same as with their 2 disc Dances With Wolves that I bought the week before last. I watched some of the extras last Thursday night when I got to take home a copy for 24 hrs, so we'll see what happens when I get home.

What a small world, I preordered DAD on bestbuy.com. By lunch today, when it hasn't arrived yet, I said, "[censored] it, I'll just drive to Best Buy and get it, and return the one I get in the mail." Actually, I might give the extra one to my dad for Father's Day.

Chandler, did you buy yours at Best Buy? Because they have a $5 off coupon for "Dances with Wolves" inside the "Bond Girls" dvd...

Can't wait for quittin' time :)

Do you mean Shaken and Stirred on Ice - the half hour programme detailing all the set, events and stunts set in Iceland? If you do I'm afraid DLibraSnow was wrong- its great. Its even got footage of the Aston crashing spectacularliy as well as test of the rolling Aston stunt (they used a BMW- nice touch). I hope it is on the R1 disc- I thought it was the best thing on the R2 disc, although it did take me a while to notice it- the fact it is in big writing makes it oddly hard to notice in the menu.

What I said was I thought "Shaken and Stirred On Ice" was nothing to scream and yell about. It's not listed as a special feature on the packaging of the Region 1 disc. I'll go check and see if it is there.

IT DOES NOT HAVE THE DOCUMENTARY "SHAKEN AND STIRRED ON ICE".....

Yes there is a section of the documentary "Inside Die Another Day" concerning the Ice Chase, but the documentary "Shaken and Stirred On Ice" was a seperate documentary. The Region 1 DVD is completely missing this documentary.

They are two totally different animals. The Ice Chase featurette is one of the chapters in the "Inside Die Another Day" doc.
"Shaken and Stirred On Ice" was a totally separate documentary (ala "Script to Screen"). Both those are NOT on the Region 1 DVD.

No surprise there, the R1 DVD of TWINE did'nt have any of the neat features that the R2 version had.

The transfer of the film is nice and clear though. Good sound too.

I will be getting my DAD DVD at Best Buy sometime later this week. $14.99 for DAD and a Bond Girl DVD, is the best buy. :)

I guess I'm probably the one who didn't go for the Best Buy deal. Already got the Bond Girls Forever thing on tape anyway from when it aired.

Anyway, as soon as I dropped my brother off at school this morning, I sped to Walmart (Best Buy is almost an hour drive away from me) and picked up my copy and tried to rush back out, although stopped by the store alarm because it wasn't scanned correctly. But, I figured if I went all the way to Best Buy, I would have had less time to watch the different stuff before I had to get my brother. So, I payed more but it was still worth it. I love the movie. A lot of neat extras too.

Got it at Best Buy and just got through watching it. They only had a couple copies of the widescreen version left (though plenty of fullscreen) and only a few of the bonus DVD left. Looks like it's only being offered at Best Buy and only for this promotion since it had a "PROMOTION ONLY NOT FOR SALE" (or something to that effect) notice on the back. Haven't looked at it yet, but the coupon book inside was useless. Over $100 dollars in savings on items that I'll never want (Madonna CD, Philips electronics) or already have (Bond DVDs, Nightfire).

I could do without the stupid cardboard sleeve, but it was a nice surprise to find that the actual case itself has the explosion/ice palace cover art. I looked through a few of the extras (it's late, I'll do more tomorrow) before turning it off. The DTS sounds INCREDIBLE and I'm sure the neighbors be complaining of noise tomorrow.

I had the same trouble spotting it at first. Considering its rather large i felt quite foolish when i didnt spot it immediately.

I heard Pussy Galore was a lesbian in the book and then made a heterosexual for the movie.

I think Pussy Galore is clearly a lesbian in the movie when you first meet her.

Connery apparently is supposed to change her in the scene where he forces himself on her in the barn -- yeah right, whatever. Some male chauvanistic 1960s BS.

Got DAD and watched it.

Question: Whenever a location/time title appear, such as "whatever coast, North Korea" or "14 months later", it appears as a subtitle text below the screen (in the black area) as oppose to on the actual screen, like it was in theaters. Yet later in the movie, when Bond and Jinx arrive at the base, the text "U.S. Command Bunker, Korea" appear on the screen as it should. Is this normal? I find it a little annoying.

Also, I can't get subtitles to appear when I push the "subtitle" button on my remote. I have to go the main menu to turn it on. Does anyone else have this problem?

As for the extras, I sorta liked the MI6 datastream feature, which will flash little trivia/notes on the screen during the course of the movie. It reminds me of the "pop-up" videos on VH1 - only without the humor.

I agree with Paul, I like the fact that the actual box on Region1 is the ice palace cover art like Region2 - it's just the cover sleeve that's the blue version.

Sorry. Didn't mean to take your comment out of context, DLibraSnow. Some people apparently just had a different opinon of it, I guess.

My whole thing was if you are going to get something free for buying the DVD, do you get a whole DVD with almost identifical features to the disc or get it for the documentary. Depends on your preference of documentary. Just goes to show MGM again disrespects its audience by not just including everything. Or maybe I just need an all-region player.:)

I have a Best Buy near me but I've never shopped there. I went to a Frye's electronics store where my dad tolled me they had the biggest DVD collection and he was right. Great prices too. I picked up Die Another Day on Thursday and I was very impressed with the sound quality but I know that I'll start getting complaints from angry neighbors soon. I haven't checked out the special features yet and it is amazing that they have included over 7 hours of material. Now that I'm on vacation I'll have plenty of time to check that stuff out. Weird outer blue case, but the inner case which holds the disks is very cool. Definitely a DVD that could be named one of the years best and obviously the DVD format is growing. The Godfather DVD collection was always the best, but DAD looks as though it could come close to that as far as quality.
