Who here liked Michel Kamen's scoring for the pre-titles sequence?
I thought that his arrangement of the Bond theme was a pretty good composition, and the gunbarrel music pretty good.

I am the only one who thinks this, or do some people agree?

I did. Worst ever Bond score IMO.

The gunbarrel theme is great. Epic-sounding.

Not a bad score, overall, but not particularly unique. Doesn't really add anything to the film, I think.

While Kamen did the Lethal Weapon scores as well, I didn't think Licence to Kill was similar at all.

I liked the score, but not as much as Martin's Live and Let Die or Conti's For Your Eyes Only. It is however, better than Hamlisch's The Spy Who Loved Me. My opinion, of course.

I love the gunbarrel music, very dramatic and serious, it sets the film up with a "don't mess with me" attitude. The rest of the score is okay, but nothing special. I like the Bond theme when Bond pulls a wheelie in the truck, that's quite a clever version of it with a good build up.

I think the LTK score is very underrated.

How can people say it's the worst when we have scores like Goldeneye?

It's easily the best score that wasn't done by Barry/Arnold.

I can't quite agree with Daltonitus about it being better than the other non-Barry or Arnold scores. I think one thing Kamen had going against him was there is no real interesting music motif to work with from Central America. Therefore, we get a lot of guitar and stuff that just doesn't sound very exotic.

Looking back at the opening on DVD, it did work pretty well. I would definitely be interested in a remixed score for LTK to give it another chance.

I can't say a bad word about any of the non Barry or Arnold soundtracks, and Licence to Kill is superb. The gunbarrel reflects Dalton's Bond and the climaxes to which the Bond theme are integral to in Licence Revoked are brilliant. They get me air-drumming every time!

One complaint, however is with the CD. The cues are haphazardly melded together, leading to much skipping of tracks to fet to the best cues. A shameful sin.

However, Eric Clapton supposedly recorded an unreleased version of the Bond Theme with Kamen that was due to be on the score, however it never made it. What a find that would be!

Sure would. I agree in your statment about the tracks being badly arranged, and have often wondered if that C.D would also be remastered. To be able to hear some of the cues in the movie without sfx would be great, but they wasted space on the C.D with the awful Wedding Party Track.

Interestingly, that was a homage to "Jamaica Jump Up" by Byron Lee.

But ends up sounding like the music you would hear in a lift on your way up to the habadashery department of John Lewis. I wholeheartedly agree that the CD wouldn't have missed that track!

Yeah - LTK is good - I would love a re-release of the score with some extra cues, as the cd release is very limited and focuses on the source music in the film, not the score. Dirty Love, If You Asked Me To and that Jamaican Jump up thing - there are only 6 tracks of Kamen's score. Which is dissapointing.

Kamen's score for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is also wonderful, and is now used as the accompniment for the 'Morgan Creek' logo you see before so many films.

The Gunbarrel music for this film was very very good.

The rest was a bit dissapointing...

I like the entire score, it's probnably my favorite score not done by Barry or Arnold. I was fortunate to find a used copy for six dollars earlier this year at a Wherehouse Music store.

You know, at a time i tried to find the unreleased version of the james bond theme that Eric Clapton, Vick Flick and Michael Kamen made. To find it i send an e-mail to Vick Flick but unfortunately he didn't know if there is a record of what they made. What is funny is that he is also trying to find this record ! So maybe kamen or Clapton have it.
ANybody know theses guy ? or know their e-mail adress ?

I'd say that, as the film's composer, Kamen would have the tape if there's one, but as it would be copyrighted by Monty Norman, I don't think that even Kamen would be allowed to distribute it on his own, privately or otherwise without consent. :)
