I found the scene in the basement of Mr. Big's club where Bond has his finger broken by Tee Hee absolutely chilling. One of Fleming's best scenes. Solitare is also one of the best Bond literary women. This novel stands the test of time well (with the exception of the descriptions of African Americans and the language used by them).

Really? I've always found Casino Royale the most gruesome of Fleming's torture sequences. Aims certianlly gets a worthy mention but he never managed to build up tension and describe pain as well as Fleming.

I have not read LALD in a while but I do remember cringing when the torture scene came.

I have to agree with 1q2w3e4r. But I did cringe when Tee Hee broke his finger. It make Bond's situation a lot worse then it already was.

I'm not keen on DADs torture scenes. What a weak cut to the titles with Bond's face being pushed into "icy water"!!!!! I hear Brosnan wasn't happy with these scenes being played over the titles as they lessened the impact. But I think not only for that but most of these scenes we see 10/15 mins later all over again!
