Are they bad or what?
The St. John Smith that he mispronounces horridly
then there's James Stock, get it?? sheeeesh
and then when he tells the Pepper wanna be sheriff that his real name is Bond.....oh my these really show some age...anyone else agree?
these are just not as good as some earlier cover names...

I think Mr. en Mrs. Somerset (FRWL) were very good cover names. I also like Robert Sterling (TSWLM).
Mikael Arkov was not a usual covername, because MI6 didn't gave it to him. THAT'S the poorest covername.
Mr. Van Beere is again much better.

I agree, the cover names were poor. They should have used a name like "JAMES BOLDMAN", like one of the books. Plus.....the clothes they gave him to wear were awful! A 57 year old Roger in a leather jacket?........please!
But then again it was 1985.

I have to agree with Freemo.
'Sinjon' is a proper pronunciation of St. John. And, for me, the name St. John Smythe was a slight, clever nod to Roger's years as The Saint.

No way, I love the old "Sin jon" way of pronouncing it, it suited his cover story. Whats more unusual is that he can't use "Bond", like he's a celerbity.

"You just killed James Bond ?"

The sign of a good secret agent. :)

That scene in DAF has always bothered me.

I actually love his cover name James St. John Smythe ..

it is typical Roger :) .. always messing with people.. plus it sounds cool as hell.. to not just say "John Smith".. which is sooo typical..

Roger put a twist to it .. :) plus he must be cocky with it :)

I liked the way Roger mentioned fly fishing to Zorin. The reaction he got from Zorin was classic.

I actually think that the cover names here are pretty good. James Stock is a little bland....ok, a lot bland, but appropriate for a non-descript journalist. St. John Smythe is, however, a ripper of a name. It gave Rog the opportunity to indulge in some petty one-upmanship and perfectly suited the type of "i-have-a-lot-of-money-to-throw-around" type of character he was impersonating.

I also thought the cover names in AVTAK were excellent and very appropriate for the character 007 was portraying at a particular instance.
