Trust Roger to choose his moments...Best wishes to my favourite Bond...

"Actor Roger Moore has collapsed on stage during a performance in New York.
The 75-year-old was playing a cameo role in Kenneth Branagh's Morecambe and Wise tribute, The Play What I Wrote.

The former James Bond star reportedly managed to struggle through the final moments of the show, but was later taken to a Manhattan hospital surrounded by paramedics with an oxygen mask over his mouth.

A spokeswoman said that Moore was admitted to the Emergency Room and treated for respiratory problems. His condition has been described as stable."

Actor Moore 'taken to hospital'

Moore was said to be in a stable condition
James Bond actor Roger Moore has reportedly been taken to hospital in New York after collapsing on stage during a show.

The 75-year-old actor was singing and dancing during a performance of The Play What I Wrote on Broadway when he collapsed, a British newspaper has reported.

He is being treated in a Manhattan hospital for respiratory problems, and said to be in a stable condition.

Audiences first though the collapse was part of the actor's routine, but soon realised it was a genuine health scare, the Sun newspaper said.

'Huge cheer'

The show's stars, Right Size comics Sean Foley and Hamish McColl, told the Lyceum Theatre audience the show would be taking a short break after Moore is said to have told McColl: "I think I've fainted, old boy."

Moore was said to have received "a huge cheer" when he returned to the stage, dressed in lederhosen, for the last part of his performance.

The actor managed to complete the last ten minutes, and still dressed in his lederhosen costume, was then taken by paramedics to the St Luke's and Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan, the Sun said.

Hamish McColl and Sean Foley pay homage to Morecambe and Wise
A hospital spokeswoman reportedly said doctors were looking at him and that his condition was stable.

A London-based spokesperson for Moore told BBC News Online on Thursday morning she had been unable to get any further details about his condition.

Moore was playing a cameo role in the show, written by Foley and McColl and directed by Kenneth Branagh. He is the latest of several stars to do the guest spot in New York, after Liam Neeson, Kevin Kline, Alan Alda and Jeff Goldblum.

The play, which started in London in 2001, is an homage to the double act comedy of Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise.

Roger Moore took over the role of 007 agent James Bond in 1973 in the film Live and Let Die, after becoming a cult star playing the suave hero Simon Templar in the TV series The Saint.

In recent years he has campaigned on behalf of the United Nations' children's charity Unicef.

Does anybody else find it strange and somewhat unsettling to see any of the Bond actors get sick or injured? Sure they are regular men, but I just don't think of them as being vulnerable to such things. That's what made them Bond.

I was very concerned to read this news. It's no secret that Roger Moore is my favorite actor in the role of James Bond. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

I am hearing it through the grapevine that Roger will be just fine. They are probably keeping him in the hospital just for observation.

Good luck to him and speedy recovery!

I'm surprised it didn't happen when he filmed AVTAK. So many stairs, so little oxygen...

I know (according to The Simpsons) that "Alec Guinness" is another way to say "genuine class", but that mantle needs to go to Roger Moore. He finished the show, and with a joke no less, despite having serious health problems. I hope the guy lives forever, but alas, unlike Bond he is mortal. Get well soon, Rog...

You know, Roger is older than my father, and for him to be working on stage at this age is simply amazing. For Roger to do much physical action at age 57 in AVTAK is also simply amazing.

How many of us at 57 or 75 will be working as tirelessly as Roger has??

You make the jokes, but do you think all those fat, out-of shape critics who hate Roger can do it? I highly, seriously doubt it.

The above uncalled for post is rubbish, some things are better left unsaid...

Is there any way CBN could send some kind of get well wishes to Roger Moore's publicist or somebody to forward to him? Based on all the sentiment here (with one glaring exception) it seems like a worthwhile thing to do.

It was sadly ironic that it should happen to Roger at a Morecambe & Wise tribute. For Eric Morecambe himself collapsed and died on stage from an heart attack. :)

Anyway, I wish Roger well and hope he recovers very soon.

By the way, I think that the "clever person" who made THAT comment should be repremanded by the moderators.
