Sky News (murdoch news corporation) has reported that Aishwarya is being considered for the role of the bond girl but Aishwarya doesn't seem too willing to do the role. Infact Barbara Broccoli wants an indian actress at any cost and are considering two more in case Aishwarya actually rejects the role- Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra.
Sky News is a very reliable channel and have never reported anything without all the facts. They say EON is quite upset that these stories are getting out since the movie is scheduled only for 2003 and thus are keeping things close to their chest.
Priyanka Chopra was interviewed and she said that Aishwarya Rai is the first choice but incase she rejects the role they (lara dutta and she) are the next choices

Wow, her PR people have some nerve. Eon has already denied her. The whole thing was obviously just a ploy to get her name in the news and to get people to take a look at her. Perhaps her PR company should next say that she’s going to be a Spice Girl.

I always thought that she had headlights for eyes, anyway. Not she isn't pretty, but damn, does the term "bug-eyed" mean anything? To me, it threw her whole face off.
