I have a UK Penthouse magazine dated Dec 1997 with Douglas James -- Pierce's stand-in -- dressed as Bond (looking VERY Pierce-like) and posing with nude "Bond girls." The whole layout is sort of an unofficial tie-in with TND. He's even on the cover!

I've often wondered what the story was with this magazine. I'm CERTAIN his contract prevents him for doing this. Could Eon have approved this? Is James still Pierce's double?

Does anyone have any info?

Eon are pretty stern about saying that Douglas James does not work for them and was only in Tomorrow Never Dies. With the circumtance of his quickly being hired to fill in for Pierce, I’d guess those clauses were left out of his quicky contract.

You wouldn’t happen to have a scan of the cover would you, zen?

Not sure if this is too racy for CBn. Feel free to take it down or censor it if it is.

Why is that? I understood that he was supposed to be doing stuff for TWINE as well.

Did he not go down well with people?

Don’t know. It sure seemed like it. I guess they didn’t like him capitalising on his job as Bond. And as I understand it he did nothing in The World is not Enough.

He was just hired for about one day on TND, as stand in when I believe Pierce had to be with Keely. After that he went around telling everyone he was the stunt double etc and doing stuff like this for Penthouse. He was not asked back. When DAD came out he was at a special event, being paid of course, in India holding himself out as Pierce's stunt double in DAD and taking credit for the fencing scenes. How he hasn't been sued into oblivion is beyond me. My favorite Douglas James interview, from last year, is where he says he unlike homebody Pierce he lives like the "real" James Bond and that in the future if his "career" goes well he'll be the star and Pierce could be his stunt double. Priceless. :)

Correct me if I’m wrong MBE, but wasn’t James working as a Brosnan look-a-like before his day in Tomorrow Never Dies? And isn’t that how he got the double gig in the first place?

Zencat, yep that's some chutzpah. He does it so well that newspapers still interview him and believe his claims, of course so much reporting is so sloppy maybe that's not too hard.

Mister Asterix, that's the first I heard of that but it makes sense on how they got him on such short notice. But with the way MGM comes down on many Bond rifs in ads (heck they threatened to sue Coke for the 2nd Brosnan ad back in '87) it's surprising James has got away with so much Bond stuff without being sued yet. And I'm sure all the stuntmen who work so hard are thrilled he takes credit for their work.

I loved these ads! I remember at the time thinking they were more Bondian than the latest Bond film, TLD.

Any idea where I could get a copy of these ads, MBE?

Zencat there's one online at a Steele site in avi form, the first one with the ice cube. The other one I haven't seen since it first aired, the one on top of train. But yes great fun ads.

Thanks for the link, MBE. I can get the audio, but I can't get the image. I'm on a Mac so I sometimes have trouble with avi files. Darn! So close, but still so far.

Pierce's stunt double in TWINE was a chap named Wade Eastwood....MKKBB did an interview with him at the time TWINE was shooting.

The old and ever reoccuring problems with Macs and .avi files. I wanted to throw my Mac out of the window more than once...
Most of the .avi problems can be fixed by the use of DivX Doctor II (can be found here: http://doctor.3ivx.com/). Most of them. Not this one. Still no image, but I have to admit that the audio track runs better now.
I have a few more codecs on my Cube at home, maybe it works with one of them. I'll let you know.
(OT: My fellow Mac users, if you have problems playing VCDs properly, just try out this amazing little application called PresentMovie: http://www.thankyouw...esentmovie.html

Sorry to take the thread OT again.
Mac folks: I had this thing running without any problems on my Mac at home.
Don't want to bore people around here with technical stuff, if anyone of you wants to know more about it, just PM me.

Edit/update: My solution obviously doesn't work under OSX. But I managed to save the movie as .mov file that doesn't seemto cause any trouble on Macs. Unfortunately it's bigger than the original file (6MB instead of 1,3MB, stuffed down to 4 MB). But if anyone wants to have it, just PM.
