It's become apparent that it's a really good Madonna song.

From the cuurent strain of Madonna songs, I'm noticing a pattern. She seems to be sitting behind one of those terrible Yamaha keyboards with 25 keys and playing individual notes. Added to that is the fact the keyboard keeps cutting out at regular intervals. When I first heard DAD I assumed something was wrong with the MP3 as her voice kept cutting out.

Still, having said that it does fit in with the film. I think this is partly due to the fact that we have something to watch and take our minds off the song lyrics so we don't notice it as much. The lyrics are poor:

"I guess I'll Die Another Day, it's not my time to go."

...and then from nowhere:

"Sigmund Fraued, analyse this, analyse this..."

What's that there for? To prove she's read something? She claims the whole song is about destroying your ego but there's only one line that's appropriate to that topic. Namely the line that explicitly says she's going to destroy her ego. And what is all the business about with closing her body?

Like I said at the beginning of the post, it's all very hashed together.

My $.02: No.

My $1.02: No. No. and for god's sake, NO.

The title song for DAD has that "Sounds crappy the first time you hear it but it grows on you" feeling... plus from what I've heard, Arnold had no involvement in the song...

What about going back to a male vocalist/band for a title song? We haven't seen that since TLD... I mean, hell, if Duran Duran was able to get the AVTAK title theme to #1 in the US, it's possible you could do it again... just don't get some ska/punk band to do the title song. :)

In my opinion all Bond title themes grow on us, at first I thought TND sucked but then i listened to it again and again. Still I yell encore! DAD has grow on me, but not as much as any title theme. You know I think that most of us Bond fans can diss any James Bond movie, or any James Bond soundtrack but we always come back, and watch and listen until our eyes are bulge and our ears pop.

like many people, DAD's theme has the simple "Hate it first time you listen to it, like it after repeated listening."

I suggest that we don't bring her back for Bond XXI. I say we go back to a band singing the title theme, but that's just me. :)

DAD is far and away the worst song in the series.
It lacks both the style and formula of any of the previous 19 entries.

It was possible to sing along to ANY of the other songs, but DAD was just a mess.

Maybe it was good by Madonna's, which isn't saying much, but it definitely does not belong in a Bond film.

Nearly 30/40 years on, young and old alike are still aware of classics such as 'Goldfinger' and 'Diamonds are Forever'

In 30/40 years time who will remember the 'words' (if you can call them that) to DAD??

Not many me thinks..

DAD is an awesome Bond song (much better than than the awful film itself) and i'd love Madonna to come back again, but I doubt she would. Anyway the new rumor is that Mariah Carey will do the next theme complete with cameo......now Bond can completely go to ****.:)

Some people might consider that move as a step up for the Bond movies.

I wish the producers did, but they chose her instead.

Oh well, I'd rather live off the proceeds from Die Another Day than her song. In comparison, I'd be quite poor trying to live off it alone. I'm glad that it is considered more a Madonna song than a James Bond song. The disassociation is comforting to me.

In any case, I hope that the producers have learnt from their mistake of trying to shoehorn some primadonna into their movie, song- or acting-wise.

This is why I think Mariah will never be chosen. Madonna spoilt her chances.

You could live very well off of the proceeds of the DAD single.....then again you won't be living off of anything that had to do with the film in any way:plol!......so I hope you find some other way of earning some cash. It's a Madonna song since she wrote and sang it....but it's also a Bond theme forever and always...even after you're dead and forgotten. That certainly comforts me;)

The producers are smarter than you or I,and I doubt Madonna ruined anyones chances of singing the theme and acting in the film....yeah i'm really starting to enjoy this Mariah rumor:p

Of her two contributions to the film, it is the least worst.

Will this do?

No - I'm not sure that will make me feel better per se but it's of interest that you have put up a sterling defence of the song given some fairly brutal dismissals of it (and I respect that more than the song), but as far as I can (be bothered to) make out, you've said little about the cameo.

And yes, I know the thread's about the song, which I'm sure is splendid.

Well the thread is about the song.....but if you're interested in what I think of the cameo.....I thought she was decent for her 3 minutes, and it set off the best sequence in an otherwise awful film. Btw I actually loved the DAD when I saw it....after repeated viewings on DVD,i've become disapointed.

I guess DAD the movie constantly stays on the same "level". It's too bad that it drops to an even lower level after 1 1/2 hours.

You all should know my opinion on the song, but Madonna's one-liner was one of the better ones in DAD.

Agreed. It's too contemporary to become an evergreen.
