One of the unsung heroes of the early Bond films passed away on 4th March aged 81.
He was the special effects wizard who worked alongside Ken Adam and John Stears to create Bond's briefcase in FRWL, The Aston Martin in GF, He operated the laser beam in GF! Modified Little Nellie in YOLT...and built Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I was fortunate enough to have dinner with him a few years ago and said it was this that he was most proud of.
In the days before CGI Bert and many others like him did stuff FOR REAL!

This is sad. Another member of the original team is gone. I hope there is plenty of information or interviews about a guy like him out there. Although not the high-profile name of some of the others, an important contributor to be sure.

Burt was a very important man in the James Bond world, indeed. I had the pleasure of meeting him for a few brief moments last year and he was a very nice man. There is a biography of Luxford that came out early last year which I recommend everyone get. I'm sure you can pick it up at SpyGuise.com.

I remember seeing a documentary on British tv when DAD was out. He talked about the briefcase in FRWL, Aston Martin in GF and the laser beam. A wonderful man with great talent.

If the measure of a man's life is in the happiness he brought to others, then Bert Luxford's life is immeasurable.

Requistat en pace.

I've read the book, and it is pretty good! I recommend it.
