Three Men and A Little Lady

Once described by Scottish author Irvine Welsh as "Sickening Yank Schmaltz".

It also includes Tom Selleck expressing his own personal views on England..."I hate this country!"

Awful movie.

I remembering getting a pretty big laugh when we were introduced to England with a wide shot of the country and "Rule Britannia" blaring.

I imagine there would have been a few accusations of "Anti-Americanism" were the tables turned.

I must confess to a certain fondness for its predecessor however.

Batman Forever: Includes better villains than a deformed Danny DeVito and gives us a more personal Batman instead of the tree in the latex suit the previous two films presented. :D

Heaven can Wait (1978).

I have always loved this movie.

"The Fountainhead". Ayn Rand's novel was probably unfilmable, Patricia Neal overacts her head off while Gary Cooper is as wooden as a tree. The characters aren't people but ideas, i.e. Howard Roark is capitalism, Ellsworth Toohey is communism, Peter Keating is mediocrity, Dominique Francon is fear of people. But it's so over-the-top and the ideas it explores is so fascinating I find it probably the most unintentionally funny film ever made. Probably would make a good double feature with Airplane!

Must have missed all that.

I saw two great Batman villains being destroyed by actors (Two-Face especially), and a Batman who doesn't even come close to being menacing.

Menacing Batmans don't turn up in "guilty pleasures" threads....:D

Which reminds me of another guilty pleasure of mine - the original Batman series from the 1960s....

Don't forget the classic 1966 theatrical film where Batman & Robin battle the fearsome foursome of Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman a/k/a "Miss Kitka"? Definitely a classic guilty pleasure.

Another one of mine is Leo McCarey's 1942 WWII comedy called Once Upon A Honeymoon. It tends to be considered among Cary Grant movies what Moonraker is among Roger Moore Bond films, but like MR, I quite enjoy it. Basically it plays like a combination in style of Bringing Up Baby meets Notorious. If that sounds strange, it is. It tends to get flack for its odd combination of 1930s style screwball comedy and WWII tragedy but it's that very aspect that makes it so fascinating and a very interesting historical relic of the Hollywood anti-Nazi propaganda films of the time. Definitely worth seeing if you're a fan of B&W Grant films and haven't seen it yet. His leading lady, Ginger Rogers, is very good looking and very funny in it too. She and Grant play perfectly off each other and makes one wish they would have made many more films as a team.

There are a couple of much maligned films (both from 1985 as it happens) I like to watch around Christmas time. One is "Santa Claus: The Movie". I can see why this film flopped, it really isn't a particularly good movie. It really lacks focus, momentum and synergy; the villain doesn't even appear until well after the halfway point. But still it has a pleasant, genial feel to it (almost comic book-ish at times), a decent score by Henry Mancini, hilariously shameless product placement (does anyone know where I can get some NewCoke?) and some great sets. Plus on a personal level it has two of my favourite actors (Dudley Moore and John Lithgow) and great nostalgic value. The other film is "Invasion USA" which is a standard Chuck Norris vs Terrorists film, only set at Christmas time. Consider it the non-thinking mans "Die Hard".

I said earlier in the thread that I don't feel guilty about enjoying films, and I don't. But here are some films with particularly poor reputations that I have genuinely enjoyed:

A Night at The Roxbury
Vegas Vacation
The Lawnmower Man
Super Mario Bros.
Shocker
Universal Soldier
Cool World
Monkeybone
GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords
Hudson Hawk
The Adventure of Ford Fairlane
Who Dares Wins
Cobra
Judge Dredd
Club Dread

Two more for my list, Robert Carlyle's Flood and Lena Heady's The Parole Officer. I love them, and feel so guilty. :D

Alien vs Predator.

In the light of seeing AVP-R, the first one isn't so bad after all. I think it is better conceptually and visually.

Super Mario Bros. (1993)

I've never understood the hate for this film. It may be "bad" when compared to how well it follows the game, but that doesn't stop it from being highly entertaining. I would much rather have a Mario movie like this than watching a guy run around the mushroom kingdom hitting blocks with his end and stomping on things.

Numero Uno for me is "Music from another room". It's a very generic romantic comedy starring a very young Jude Law (1998) but I can't stop watching it!

Other better known films:
- Batman and Robin
- the "movie" series (especially Epic movie and Meet the Spartans)
- Stop or my mom will shoot
- Deuce Bigelow: European Giglo
- Johnny English
- The Prince and me II

As for Bond films, I'm gonna go with Die Another Day.

The Long Kiss Goodnight. Vintage Shane Black script. Great Gina Davis performance.

Still second, though, in my mind, to Shane's Last Boy Scout. Bruce Willis' finest hours. And classic Shane Black mastery of the ole 1-2-3 approach: e.g., "Touch me one more time and I'll kill you."

Transporter 2, I forget that Frank Martin cannot get the virus because he is super-human, and just watch the action. And the final fight in the Airplane as it is losing altitude is a peach :( Why don't frank and the bad guy need oxygen masks, or feel a bit bilious ? Whoops forgot, they are super-human :)

I love both of those movies. However, I would have to place "The Long Kiss Goodnight" in front of "The Last Boy Scout" for one reason - Samuel L Jackson!!
Shane Black's masterpiece however is "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". That film is a classic and cannot be considered a "guilty pleasure".

Though I don't seek them out, I have a hard time turning off any of those bad 80's swords and sorcerers films.

eg.

Red Sonja
Conan the Destroyer
Krull
Beastmaster

and, um... the Sword and the Sorcerer

"I can't wait to bed you, wench. You raise my expectations."

How can you not love dialogue like that?! :(

Underrated film. :(

My only criticisms are the absence of Luigi's mustache and Princess Peach (Daisy is just not as famous as Peach).

EDIT: Just ordered this film on DVD from DeepDiscount.com. $6.46 and FREE shipping. Great deal!

Both Fantastic Four movies. I know they're goofy, but that's why I like them.

Paul McCartney's Give My Regards to Broad Street. You've got to cut me some slack, I saw this when I was a kid so it has a fun nostalgic quality for me, plus I do like the songs. :(

Does anyone else like Water with Michael Caine? Leonard Rossiter and Eddy Grant make the film to be honest.

And what about Sphere? Not 2001 like it wants to be, not 2010 either but definitely better than Event Horizon and IMO most big budget sci-fi films of recent years.

Dracula AD 1972 :(

I was going to mention that one Piz :)
Supposed teenagers that are around 30 years old with dodgy hair. An extremely bored Christopher Lee, and real clumsy vampires that accidentally open curtains to expose themselves to sunlight and then compound their doom by falling in the bath, makes Van Helsing's job a lot easier. Its great. And its lovely datedness, even the great dialogue like "Dig the music, Kids", "Groovy" etc... good god, they are about 30 :)

I don't really know the general consensus on this film, but I do to some extent have a liking for Big Trouble in Little China.

The Burt Reynolds movie Hooper I enjoy as well.
