Is there anyone out there with even a cursory (pardon the expression) knwoledge of Russian who can tell me what Xenia Onatopp says when she swears in Russian in "GoldenEye?" I've not been able to find an adequate translation or phoentic pronunciation. I'm at a loss.

Do you mean the bit in Goldeneye after the "foreplay" in the pool when James says something incredibly witty like "no no no... no more foreplay -take me to Janus" and she shrieks something that sounds like 'biaslistock"?

My knowlegde of Russian swear words is somewhat limited, but I'll bet you ten to one that it is not complimentary. my incredible acumen aside - I always thought it was probably a rough translation of B.A.S.T.A.R.D.

Dr. Crane - You've got it! According to a friend who is fluent in several dialects of Russian (whose also actually used the phrase herself on several occasions) that's exactly what she says.

I've always thought of it as that, and now thanks to Dr.Crane and our man Bryce, we know. But, does anyone actually know how to pronounce it?

The spelling is tough. However, after a quick call to the lady in question (who still lovingly calls me "Shems") I got this:

"Bee-li-oshk" - more or less. Of course, hearing her pronounce it on the phone, with her voice and accent, it almost counts as foreplay;)

It's apparently originally Georgian slang combining two words meaning "born" and "un-wed"....sounds about right.

Good! Now we all know how to shatter Anglo-Soviet cooperation in a heartbeat;)

Thanks, all of you. It's so nice when we can help each other, speaking in complete, correctly spelled sentences, without discussing whether Eon will hire Roger Moore and Sean Connery to play Bond's (Jude Law) maternal and paternal grandfathers in a new version of "Casino Royale," or some other such rubbish. Sometimes, some of our brethren forget it's a film series, not a role-playing game.

And all I have left to say is, if MGM and Eon DON'T release a Bond film in 2007, someone should be shot. Marketing doesn't get much better than that.

Speaking of marketing with numbers and dates like that, don't forget that EON released TSWLM on July 7th, 1977 07-07-77. How's that for marketing! I do agree with you that someone shold be shot if a future film isn't released in 2007. Maybe that year will be Brosnan's final film as Bond. It could be an interesting way for him to retire.
