What is q's name?
Although we never find out desmond's q's full name we do know that he's character was called Major Boothroyd.
Therefore what is john cleese's character called, if we assume that q just relates to the MI6 designation i.e 007=james bond then what is the characters name.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but it just struck me.

In TSWLM, Anya refers to him as "Major Boothroyd".

His character has only ever been called "R" in The World is not Enough and Quartermaster in Die Another Day.

Actually, Bond does specifically call Cleese Q near the beginning of the scene.

I think people have speculated before that he wouldn't be a Major. That he's a bit more of a back room boy. How about Malcolm Saunders like was suggested by Fierstien as the guy to take over from Q in his awful first draft of TND?

Cleese's Q looks like a Saunders. Maybe he's more of a Doctor of a Professor? Just a few thoughts.

All I've ever heard about his real name is Major Boothroyd. But this will be interesting to see, somebody just might come up with the answer :)

I've said this before in another thread. but I think the new Q's last name should be -- fittingly -- Llewelyn.

Maybe it should be Basil Leach, after the characters Cleese played in Fawlty Towers and A Fish Called Wanda :)
