Speaking of films and the Middle East, has anyoen heard of the Palestinian film which comedeises Israeli check-points and other things that fuel the nasty conflict. But it cannot win an Oscar because Palestine is not a country. That has got to be the worst part of being an oppressed people...

What if Bond works with a beautiful Middle Eastern agent or something like that? I doubt, however, that they'll base the movie in the Middle East. Maybe a few scenes but not all of it.

I have enjoyed the movies with Bond in the middle east but right now with so much going on in the middle east I think it would be a mistake. To me Bond is escapism not revisiting the problems we actually have. If the middle east cools down then I would like to see Bond in the middle east.

To sum up:
FRWL: Bond in Istanbul,
TMWTGG: Bond in Beirut
TSWLM: Bond in Egypt
TLD: Bond in Cairo? then a great portion of the film takes place in Afghanistan
TWINE: Bond in Kazahkstan(sp?)

So I'd say the Middle East has been adequately served.

One place James Bond hasn't been since the 1960's? Japan. As far as Asian villians go there hasn't been a major asian villian since Dr. No, you can't count Graves as he's played by an Englishman throughout the picture.

I have no problem with Bond facing a Middle Eastern villian as long as it's done in the traditional power-mad uber-villian James Bond style and not as someone else mentioned a bearded bum hiding in a cave. There'd also have to be a world conquering plot. Maybe a character from Chechnya (sp?), half Russian who hates both the US and the former Russian Republic and plans to bring both countries to their knees with some devasting weapon. Bond could team up with a beautiful female Mossad agent, (I'd have said Russian but it's been done too many times, American agent also) played by a gorgeous international actress and not another Hollywood girl.
Sorry, just aimless ramblings.

Ok. Due to the current political climate, this probably won't be possible. But, I wrote the initial outline about three years ago when I was living in Kuwait City.

I imagined this movie as being the Middle Easts version of YOLT:

Title: THE DEADLY TWILIGHTS

Bond: Pierce Brosnan

Sikaara: Patricia Velasquez
Aurora Sinclair: Nicole Kidman

Blofield: Alan Rickman

Theme: Natacha Atlas

Locations: Gibraltar, Dubai, Oman, Kuwait

Plot:

An experimental RN battlecruiser is stolen by a group claiming to be SPECTRE. Bond gives chase to Gibraltar where he teams up with Sikaara. But, Bond and Sikaara are captured and taken to the enemies compound in Dubai. Bond and Sikaara try to escape with Aurora but they are unable to and Aurora is recaptured. Bond breaks back in on his own and rescues Aurora. There, he learns that SPECTRE has hijacked the experimental RN battlecruiser and plan to sale it into the Persian Gulf and restart the Gulf War ( see NOTES above ). Bond formulates a plan and negotiates with SPECTRE to return Aurora to them. SPECTRE takes Aurora but, as expected, backs out of the deal. But, Bond has planted a homing device on Aurora. Bond and Sikaara follow the homing device to the experimental RN battlecruiser using a nifty Q Boat ( ala Octopussy ) where they are captured. But, they free the crew and retake the boat. Bond leaves Sikaara in the Ops Room whilst he goes for some downtime with Aurora ...

Given that Bond have been topical at time . I feel that a Mid-eastern Villian would work . We have had Russians (FRWL , FYEO, OP , TLD ) . Asians where in Dr.No , GF , YOLT ( but really SPECTRE) , TND , and now DAD . Yet there are some who are of the mind that DAD was a offshoot of "Colonel Sun" . The villian in DAD was not a Englishman , but a Korean . Who had "changed" to look English .

As far as the Middle East being too timely. If the US begins hostilities around March 17 2003 then the conflict with Iraq will be long over by November 2004. Experts are predicting that it would takes a matter of weeks at the outside to unseat Saddam and liberate/conquer Iraq. Unless the US decides to make a clean sweep in the Middle East and move on to Iran, Syria, Sudan, etc, However I don't see that happening. Barring terrorist retaliations for the Iraq battle here in the US, then all bets are off.
A Middle Eastern villian could work if it was some deposed sheik or dictator who blames the US and Britain for his ouster and now seeks revenge Bond Villian style.

Kev, I'm really enjoying our little exchanges over the various threads. Well maybe there is a little wishful thinking on my part, but the news shows here keep showing our massive might and not much of Saddam's. I have to believe as the only superpower left on the planet we would crush Iraq swiftly, and from what Rumsfeld is saying, that's what we're going to do. Anyway for all involved I hoping it's over quickly, I don't see any turning back for us now. (climbs off soapbox)
Till next time my friend.

this is a james bond site...it is not a site to promote the blatant disregard for human life...

i'm all for freedom, etc., but some of u americans have to be careful about "crushing iraq swiftly". if innocent life is taken without remorse, u just might find the beginings of future martyrs who could take it upon their poor shoulders to wipe out new york in an instant a few years down the line.

i'm a canadian not an arab...but u gotta be careful about HOW you unseat suddam and his cronies...(climbs off his soapbox)

How about a French-Algerian Villian who is out to destroy Britain . it might work given how much people are hating the French this days . I am sure George Bush would love it . Plus it would give all the Jene Reno fan something to look forward too .
