Surrendering enemies

I heard that in this game, you can make enemies surrender by sneaking up on them.

Once they've surrendered, can you kill them if you want to a la MGS2, or do you have to just knock them out?

Yeah they do surrender if you sneak up on them. You don't have to knock them out though. I just give them a quick shot to the head. If you don't take them out quick enough they will pull out a pistol which is a nice effect.
