EON, MGM, and Park Circus have just announced the release of The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only in newly restored 4k versions as they return to cinemas worldwide beginning 31st May to celebrate the life of Sir Roger Moore with 50% of all proceeds going to UNICEF.

Cinemas include Odeon (UK), AMC Theatres (US), and Hoyts (Australia).

EON Productions’ Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have said – “in honour of Sir Roger Moore, we are delighted that these screenings will benefit UNICEF which was the charity closest to his heart“.

I wish these were screening over the course of a few weeks rather than just May 31. I am busy on that day, and I really wish there were more options in terms of scheduling.

I'm curious because here in the USA, AMC Theaters has the double feature listed as running for 3 hrs and 47 minutes which is clearly wrong as the films are both over 2 hours. The run time should be 4 hrs and 14 minutes. I hope the films haven't been editing down to fit under four hours.

Listings haven't gone up for me yet, but I'll be sure to double check the runtime.

I think it's great they're pairing FYEO with TSWLM, as the end credits for TSWLM have always read (incorrectly):

I think it's great they're pairing FYEO with TSWLM, as the end credits for TSWLM have always read (incorrectly):

 

 

And it makes a great double bill as they both feature underwater scenes, skiing, and reference Tracy.  They're similar in tone too (not as outlandish as Moonraker and Octopussy, nor as 70-esque as LALD and TMWTGG.)

I'll be heading up to Dallas on the 31st to see it myself. I've never had an opportunity to see Sir Roger's films on the big screen. I wish it was under better circumstances but I love the half the proceeds are going to UNICEF. Here's hoping EON will see the benefits of re-releasing the classic Bond films on the big screen again. I'd love to see Goldfinger and OHMSS re-released.

I myself may have to travel 38 miles to see this, but it might be the only Bond released in theaters for a while.  A good way to celebrate the 55th anniversary, however, this being 2017.

What a treat to see this tonight. First thing first. You really haven't seen a classic Bond film until you see it on the big screen. What a difference! I have never enjoyed TSWLM and FYEO so much as I did tonight. I saw details and faces I've never notice before. Everything just has so much more impact. The action, the humor, the music, the sound, and especially the acting. Roger was a Star, plain and simple. He just oozes screen presence and is large then life and it took the big screen for me the really, truly realized that.

 

Some things I noticed. Both films start with the 3D MGM logo zooming in from Leo the Lion's eye, TSWLM has the TransAmerican Company logo, while FYEO had the modern United Artist Logo. Both films looked gorgeous and sound fantastic. If you've never seen them on the big screen before I HIGHLY recommend you do so.

Somewhere between 35 and 40. I did a head count just before the start but a few people came in late.

Didn't get out to see this as the first one was too far away, and the second date conflicted with the NBA finals.  Would have loved to see the 4K prints though.  This is a great double bill, though I don't think I've ever paired those two.  Will soon address that!
