Okay ladies and gents, stick with me.

I watched the 2013 French drama film starring our lovely miss Léa Seydeoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos for the first time in December of last year and rewatched it again today. Now, as a heterosexual male in a happily committed relationship with a female, I must admit, the plot, beauty, and rawness of this film is really quite captivating! I'm not sure there is exactly one thing specifically that drives my affinity for this three hour, lesbian coming-of-age/orientation that i must read subtitles for for the entire duration, but whatever it is, it works. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite foreign films. If I have one gripe with the film though, it is probably the drawn out, lewd sex scenes sprinkled throughout. I just feel they could've gotten a lot more out of the scenes with actually depicting a lot less!  :P

Anyway, I digress.

It feels like a very genuine life journey film with some superb acting from relatively unknown actresses at the time. Of course, the only reason I gave it a go was because of Seydeoux and my love for her performance in SPECTREI was just wondering what the consensus was on this film among you guys? Have you seen it? Did you enjoy it?

I also enjoyed Blue is the Warmest Color or La Vie d'Adele as its known in its native France. I think it depicts a genuine relationship with all the ups and downs. The 2 female leads are excellent and do a lot with more or less a minimal plot. My only problem with film, like yours Trevelyan, are the sex scenes. They seem created specifically with a male audience in mind. From what my lesbian friends have actually told me, their sex is nothing like what we see in the film. They seem a lot more like softcore porn scenes thrust into an otherwise great coming of age/love story.

Very interesting! The male point of view connect now makes much more sense for those scenes, after all, the director was male. Perhaps that is why we ended up with what we ended up with...
