Hello, Im working for a small manufacturing company and we've been tossing around the idea of doing a limited run of the attache knife in FRWL. The question is would anyone be interested in these or would it be a waste of time and money>>>

Hmm.  More knifes - exactly what this world needs.

Isn't the question whether it would be legal?

Difficult to judge, the original will likely not have been a copyrighted real knive but a prop made by the production. Then you'd have to contact Eon for license to produce a replica of the knife. If you wanted to reproduce a whole attaché case you'd likely be in hot waters over concealment of weapons or contraband. And if you manage to sort all this out and get into business and one of your customers decides to try entering a restricted area with his toy...then you might still find yourself at the sharp end of massive legal trouble, even if - hopefully - nobody comes to harm.

In short: such a replica would have to come with a very hefty price tag to justify all the trouble. Not sure that's a really good idea and the market for these thingies is realistically speaking only limited.

There is no copyright on either the attache or the knife. SD Studios reproduced the whole case some years back, we're not interested in that. The knife it's self has been done a number of times but no one right now is reproducing it.

Well, there you go. In all likelihood there is a reason it's not currently made, probably the market just isn't big enough. In the end it depends how your costs run up against what the market is willing to pay.

There are always a couple of people willing to go the extra mile for their hobby. But your own expenses quickly pull the whole thing back on earth again. You may probably learn something from your predecessors and how their products are currently rated with collectors. Overall I have my doubts it's a terribly successful venture, even if there isn't any licensing to take care of.

Yes, the question abou legality is more about the "knife" thing. Is the world enriched by another knife?

No, don't think so.

I'd buy it.
