Interesting, very interesting.

Always fun to see Bond alumni together. In Penny Dreadful we have Dalton and Eva Green ! I've not seen enough to see their characters interact directly, but it sure seems headed that way if it has not already occurred in episodes I've not yet seen.
There are many, many more examples available to cite by someone, unlike myself, who is aware of the off-the-screen talent from the 007 films. I am able mostly to recognize when the alumni actors play together in other productions.
Then, there is the next level of interesting coincidences, such as when someone once rumored or considered to portray Bond appears with a Bond alumni.

Dalton isn't going to be in this after all. Jason Isaacs has been cast instead.

I have always thought that Jason Isaacs would have been a great Bond. He even bears a slight resemblance to both Dalton and Craig, in an odd way.

This was indeed heartbreaking when I came across this news. Royal, by chance have you come across any reason as to why Dalton did not end up in the final production?
Such a shame, I had been hoping Penny Dreadful would lead to Dalton getting some more good film work. This seemed to be the first step. Some great writers and talent involved. It seemed cool and surreal to have Dalton starring with Buscemi, Palin(!), and reuniting with Tambor.
Hopefully Dalton will not just retreat quietly back into solitude. I hope Dalton gets some interesting projects soon.

He is 70. Maybe he could be allowed to scale things back a little....

I am aware of his age. But scale back? The guy has maybe 8-10 years left to be involved in film and television. That is not a lot of time. In addition, it is not like Dalton has been this rampant workhorse these last 25 years or so. Dalton has not done a lot and the majority of his projects from 92 onward are not exactly memorable.
Dalton seemed to get a good re-start with the wonderful Hot Fuzz but there has not been a whole lot following that either. Dalton has deserved better and I am still holding out hope for some great projects before he officially retires. I keep hoping an auteur like Nolan or Tarantino will use Dalton in a great project and allow Dalton to leave on a high note he has so richly deserved.
