Ok I realize that Halle Berry is a big deal right now in the entertainment world, but why is Jinx so hailed?

Berry's performance was good, but I definitely don't see her as a stand out, truly memorable Bond girl. In fact, I would have to say that Miranda is much more of a "Bond girl" in this film than Jinx.

It made sense for Wai Lin to be fighting w/ Bond in TND, with the British/Chinese crisis ordeal, but why is Jinx there? She seems practically thrown into the story, much like Mary Goodnight.

Ok I'm not complaining about Jinx's presence, I'm just questioning the hype. The obvious reason is her Oscar, and the E! network & others' obsession with her (forgetting about that whole hit & run thing...), but as far as her character goes, I see (and hope for) no spinoff capabilities. If she were really "Bond's equal," she would've been able to A) escape from that ridiculous laser contraption and :) escape from that easily escapable frozen hotel room without Bond's help.

Any thoughts?

Well, the Americans were tracking Zao after they had to exchange him for Bond. Why the NSA had any interest in this is beyond me, they should have just made Jinx CIA.

Can someone explain to me what exactly the NSA does and if they send out agents like the CIA does?

The NSA does not send out agents-that's the CIA's job. The NSA is a huge agency, but their function is to monitor transmissions, e-mails, phone calls, etc. In other words, it's a bunch of cryptologists, mathematicians, and the like easedropping. They do not do any field work whatsoever. I don't understand why the filmmakers missed this.

In any event, I agree with the first poster 100%. It did feel a lot like Jinx was just thrown into the movie for the hell of it and I see no possible way that they could or would do a spinoff with her character. As far as memorable Bond girls go, I wouldn't rank Jinx in the Top 10. As you said, Frost was a better Bond girl in this film. Jinx was simply eye candy and all the hype around her getting her own movie and "stealing" the film from Bond was just a publicity stunt. Jinx will wind up having the same half life as all the other Bond girls-1 and done.

Totally agreed with both Adam and Mi6 AgntBond007. One of the things than ran through my mind watching DAD was: why do some people REALLY think that Jinx deserves any kind of further filmic life beyond this movie?

I love Halle Berry, and I enjoyed Jinx in this movie. But I agree I saw no reason for a Jinx spin-off. But, if it comes I'll be there.:)

No hard feelings to Halle Berry but her Character Jinx in my mind was nothing special, just decorative and not many decent intelligent lines either. Probably it was the script but I have to say Wai Lin was more interesting and more a counterpart to Bond.

I feel dialogue in the film too weak to make Jinx's character credible enough.

I definitely agree with you, 5 BONDS. I just saw DAD again tonight, and I believe Wai Lin to be a much more credible counterpart to Bond than Jinx. Just look at the way Jinx seems to constantly look at James for guidance when they're working together; plus she's always following him. Wai Lin does not fit those characteristics.

To her credit, Jinx was fun and sexy without being the "I can do this myself" attitude shown by, Holly Goodhead, for example. And she had a sense of humor. I didn't always think all her lines worked, but she also was quite courageous. But I agree that the drowning in the ice hotel was stupid, and I would rather see Wai-Lin in a sequal.

Jinx goes somewhere near the bottom of my list for Bond girls....She's just kind of mediocre and I don't really see any reason for her to have her own spinoff, I'd much rather have had the Wai Lin spinoff, than Halle "I'm way overhyped" Berry playing Jinx.....
