The Guardian has reported film editor Jim Clark passed away in February. RIP.

Notable for his Bond work on TWINE in 1999.

Bond author William Boyd has many kind words for Clark. He wrote the Guardian article cited above and below,

The Telegraph obituary writes, "One happy association was with the author William Boyd. In 1994 Clark edited the film of his novel A Good Man in Africa and (co-editing with his wife) cut Boyd’s directorial debut The Trench five years later. “It turned out to be a fascinating adventure,” recalled Boyd. “Jim is a man renowned for his candour: he does not pull punches, he does not mince his words, he is fearlessly honest.”"

Clark also published his memoirs several years ago. He discusses working on TWINE. Some fascinating info. Clark thought the action scenes were too long and so had to viciously cut them down. There was a depressing test-preview before a hostile audience. The American Ratings Board initially slapped the film with an "R" rating. Clark disliked the title song ("dire"), David Arnold's noisy score and the kitschy title sequence. He wasn't alone: even the sound editor was none too pleased with David Arnold's bombastic work on the previous Bond film TND and feared the worst. By the time Clark came to edit the film's climax, he was visibly fed up with Arnold's score, or as Clark liked to call it "another thunderous wall of noise". Ultimately Clark though the final mix was too loud on all fronts - music and special effects.

A print of the film was sent to cinematographer Adrian Biddle for final notes who by this time was in Canada shooting a movie. Surprised nobody commented on how badly shot the film is.

Boyd also did editorial work on the award winning 1969 movie "Midnight Cowboy" and the very troubled Timothy Dalton-Dustin Hoffman-Vanessa Regrave 1979 movie Agatha directed by TWINE's own Michael Apted.

George Martin, Ken Adam, Douglas Slocombe, and now Jim Clark. And that's on top of all the Bond people who died last year.

I think 2016 will be a very bumpy year for Bond fans and obituaries... hold onto your hats.

Very interesting to read Clark's thoughts on TWINE. I agree with him especially his comments re Arnold's score.

We mustn't forget George Martin's passing to alas.
