I noticed there isn't a thread for Bond composers and I felt like bringing one up. I'm thinking Alexandre Desplat would be brilliant for a Bond film, he's recently done Zero Dark Thirty and The Imitation Game.

Desplat would be a terrific choice, as would Alberto Igelsias, Abel Korzeniowski or possibly Daniel Pemberton.

I'd be quite happy to see David Arnold return.

Desplat would be my top choice if Newman were not to return (which I'm not expecting). I would definitely prefer further infusions of new blood rather than an Arnold return.

If we are talking new composer and not the return of Arnold or Newman (both of whom id happy with) Alexandre Desplat would be a fantastic choice.

I am still voting for Michael Giacchino. Second choice is David Arnold.
I love Michael Giacchino, but I feel like his scores homage Bond too much, if he went out of his way to do something new it would be better.

Giacchino is a great composer, going for the Williams/Goldsmith/Horner style. I know, his THE INCREDIBLES was aiming for Barry´s OHMSS - and he certainly would be able to do it less pastiche-like for a Bond film. But he´s not my no.1 on a list for future Bond composers.
I actually would not mind David Arnold returning. His two Craig-Bond scores were splendid.

A lot of things has happened since Giacchino did the score for The Incredibles 11 years ago. Take a look at his recent blockbuster scores.I love Michael Giacchino, but I feel like his scores homage Bond too much, if he went out of his way to do something new it would be better.I am still voting for Michael Giacchino. Second choice is David Arnold.

Giacchino is not a good choice for an action movie... (don't like his work on Mission Impossible), he's perfect for series like Lost
What about Joe Kraemer, his score for M:I - Rogue Nation was perfect

With what he did for Zero Dark Thirty and The Imitation Game, Alexandre Desplat would be a good choice.
I'd like to see Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3). We've discussed the Bondian feel of its track "The Mechanic" in another thread.
Would still like to see David Arnold return for Daniel Craig's swansong.
Michael Giacchino has some good work (Incredibles, Star Trek) but Jurassic World was lacking in melody. Bond needs that.
Thomas Newman has had two shots so I think a third would be underwhelming.

I vote for Brian Tyler - loved his work on Iron Man 3.
But honestly, at this point I'd be happy with "Anyone but Thomas Newman".

Anyone but Bryan Tyler. Seriously. That guy cannot write interesting action music.

Eric Serra (ducks and runs for cover)
I would like to see them return to the old way of scoring the films, where the music isn't played at such a comparatively loud volume to what's going on around it. The music used to be somewhat in the background, especially during action sequences. Now it's a major part of the action sequences, playing over them so loudly that it almost serves as a hammer to hit you over the head with to make you "feel" the action that's happening on screen.

Serra - yep, that would be interesting (Although I must say I still think it fits GOLDENEYE very well and at least tried something different.)
As for the music hammering the action sequences - I agree. Unfortunately, that´s the way contemporary action films are scored, and nobody seems to want to depart from that model. Unless you´re doing STAR WARS and have the privilege of getting John Williams. No offense to Thomas Newman who easily could score action sequences very intelligently and even differently - but as he repeatedly stated in interviews, it´s Sam Mendes who is extremely particular in getting the composer to give him exactly what he wants.
Gee, my Mendes-criticisms don´t end, do they?
