Just a few sentences on the film.... I'll expand this when I get the chance.

enjoyed it, although underwhelmed by the final couple acts.

The Tangiers stuff prior to Blofeld was great... my favorite moment in the film being Bond hesitating when finding Vesper's interrogation tape. Poignant acting from Craig. Top notch. ( felt it would have been nice to have had just a hint of Vesper's piano theme played briefly, but I know why it wasn't done)

A missed moment during the car chase... in the Vatican section of the chase when the cars enter the Piazza San Pietro... there was an opportunity for an all-time classic shot of the piazza and the cars racing through it... instead we just get closeups of the cars. What a shame.

Bond and Lucia at her villa... another moment of visceral acting from Craig. This was Fleming's Bond through and through. Aggressive sexuality.

The torture scene was a waste. Pointless really, as it had no effect on Bond whatsoever. (I haven't read Colonel Sun in ages, so I don't remember the scene in the book)

I HATE when they use CGI buildings in movies that are grounded in present reality. (the new intelligence building across from the old mi6)

The finale was just too conveniently set up, overall.

This Moneypenny is great. Second favorite of the series. M and Q great too.

Some unfortunate green-screen work during the helicopter fight, which was ok except for that.

A regrettable fashion choice for Craig during the klinik scenes. Puffy pants and clown-sized boots.

Hinx is the best henchman... in a long, long time. Best since Jaws perhaps. Or, I'd put him on par with Necros.

I'll need to see it again to solidify some feelings.

That's like saying the GF laser scene is a waste since he didn't get split in two.

Not at all. Connery wasn't touched in that scene. Craig had holes drilled into his head

A bit of a difference!

He said he had to get the right spot. He didn't.

He still had holes drilled into his head. That has some sort of effect on you (this is the Craig era). Instead he turned into Brosnan and stood out in the open gunning down a dozen guards to get away from the base.

And sensibly standing in the open, unhindered by cumbersome cover as he approached the helipad and picked off the crew there. Must have been guys Oberhauser hired from the Star Wars pool of stormtroopers...

Would have been a good opportunity for Madeleine to take up guns and start shooting, demonstrating what was setup in the train scene, while Bond is reeling from his injury, and would have cemented Madeleine's care for Bond and Bond's choice at the end.  Also, would mirror Tracy rescuing Bond in the Alps.

Not a bad idea, as long as she's not picking off guards from several hundred meters...

Yes, the torture scene is fairly unnecessary. It seems a bit playful of Blofeld, like he's just found a new toy to fiddle with. Sadly, as we know, it's ripped out of Colonel Sun, so that'll be the end of that book ever being made into a movie. Less said about the escape from that meteor crater the better. Have you all read about the dream hypothesis? Almost makes it worthwhile.

Over in this thread, I actually argue the dream hypothesis for all the non-Craig Bond movies, finally unifying a timeline continuity.

Ah. Not the same hypothesis.

This is what I was talking about:

Worth a read.

Yes, I know.  That's what gave me the idea.  Read the post I made November 22 in that thread.

It seems with Hoyt and Lee Smith, that Sam Mendes directed a Christopher Nolan Bond in SPECTRE.  There's actually a broader theory that any time a script goes haywire, viewers can 'save' it just by imagining all the characters are dead.

For Bond that might mean the beginning of YOLT and DAD, as well as the ending of SPECTRE.
