Steven Berkoff is set to return to the London stage to play Saddam Hussein in the world premiere of Anthony Horowitz's Dinner with Saddam that begins performances at the Menier Chocolate Factory Sept. 10, prior to an official opening Sept. 22, for a run through Nov. 14. The production, directed by Lindsay Posner, also stars Sanjeev Bhaskar and Shobu Kapoor. The premise for the play is described thus in press materials: "So what happens when Saddam Hussein turns up on your doorstep and announces he is staying for dinner? Political and personal issues are top of the menu, but behind the kitchen door something else far more sinister is cooking…"
Horowitz is best known as the author of over 40 books including the best-selling "Alex Rider" series, the recent Sherlock Holmes novels "The House of Silk" and "Moriarty" and the forthcoming James Bond novel "Trigger Mortis." For television he created the series "Midsomer Murders" and "Foyle's War.
