I've gone from observer of local and national UK politics to, as of 7/5/15 actually becoming a politician, elected as a local councillor - I'm in the mood for watching any Bond film as a blessed relief now the campaign's over!

I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I offer our congratulations at this good turn. Many of us know Guy on these boards as an all-round stand-up chap, easily one of our best & brightest contributors well worth reading. He's certainly one of very small handful of contributors whose posts I always check out for their insight even in topics that hold no interest for me whatsoever.

Guy's too bashful to say where he got elected and we're not allowed to out people, but I'll give you a clue. He's the candidate who ran on the Quantum banner. :D

Ah well, onward and upward. In no time he'll be giving David Cameron advice. Just keep an eye out for pesky British agents.

Cheers Guy Haines, congratulations and good luck, mate! Public service from committed and talented individuals is an under-appreciated but important part to our democracies. Fight the Good Fight!

Congratulations! All the best for this demanding task, it's great how there are still idealists out there willing to take on the challenge instead of just lamenting the sad state of affairs. I raise my hat to you, sir.

You obviously serve a discerning electorate, Guy Haines.  Well done, and many congratulations!

Good morning colleagues, and thank you so much for your kind words. Like SPECTRE, when it comes to this forum I'm strictly apolitical so I won't impose my views on you - frankly, like my involvement with the local air museum, I come here as a relief from work and, now, local politics. Left, right, centre or whatever, we're all Bond fans here and debate 007 and his doings and in my experience here for the most part with respect for each other. And long may it remain so.

(However, unless "Number 1" - or maybe Franz Oberhauser? - knows something I don't, I'm the only member of the council who has the SPECTRE octopus on his watch face and as the display on his mobile. ;). Mobiles have to be switched off during council meetings. Just as well - wouldn't want the opening bars of "Thunderball" going off mid speech! :))

Incidentally, I've been looking for the "Bond like news" thread because I heard some pretty horrible news from - you've guessed it - North Korea. According to the South Koreans, the North's Defence Minister fell asleep at an event and has paid for it - executed at a firing range by anti-aircraft gun! Dreadful, and it immediately put me in mind of those equally awful and unusual ways Blofeld found to dispose of inattentive underlings.

Once again colleagues, many thanks,

Guy Haines

Given the interesting stuff trickling out about Spectre on our site you would have to be pretty desperate to read this post, but for anyone out there who is remotely interested, an update since election day on Mr Guy Haines' progress.

Just over three weeks in, and I've gained a council committee chairmanship, membership of other committees, including two important ones, and have been elected overall Vice-Chairman of my District Council.

I'm tempted to say "The first thing you should know about us is that we have people everywhere" - to borrow from Mr White. By which I mean, folks, not SPECTRE or Quantum but the Cbn forums.

(We have, by the way, a meeting on 6th November 2015, and I fully intend it will finish on time because I'm off to the flicks after, and I'm sure you all know why! ;))
