A member of the MI6 forum found this article:-

Normally I would have placed this in one of the Production threads, but it has a little information that I believe should be discussed separately.

Hmm... If true, Mendes must have had a change of mind since he was very adamant about not wanting Bond 24 to be a two story arc..

I wouldn't mind something akin to a direct sequel, similar to what many of us were hoping for in QoS.

This may even mean that we get a two year gap between Bond 24 and Bond 25 (without sacrificing the quality of Bond 25), a prospect I am certainly looking forward to.

I hope, though, that he is not insinuating a rebooted Tracy plotline, as I honestly feel it has been too soon since the Vesper thing. That would mean that 4/5 of Craig's Bond films are predicated on Bond falling in love (and presumably losing his love?). Too much, too soon.

I'm thinking it will be akin to the DN, FRWL, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, DAF mini-arc. Technically, there is one overarching story, but all the films can be enjoyed as stand-alone adventures. I'm getting the feeling that Bond 25, while continuing the story and themes of SPECTRE, won't necessarily be SPECTRE 2 as Quantum of Solace was Casino Royale 2.

I would say that the person who wrote that has clearly read the script - but I wouldn't necessarily consider his assumptions to be correct. They're just one interpretation.

I had the same reaction after reading certain documents that were leaked from a certain company. I definitely see this story continuing in a second film.

I think a direct sequel is possible if the main villain of Spectre, "Oberhauser", turns out not to be Blofeld. We would still be left wondering - "where is he?" Of course this might not matter a jot to the paying public who are not die hard Bond fans, though the media built up speculation that Christoph Waltz would be playing Blofeld simply because of the film's title. It would seem a bit odd to have a Bond film entitled Spectre and not have even the slightest mention of "Number1". A bit like Hamlet without the prince.

One thing though - having spent years trying to tie up the loose ends of the film rights of Bond, including the use of Blofeld and SPECTRE, I find it difficult to believe that the producers would want to only show the organisation in one movie. Even if Bond 25 isn't a direct sequel, I think SPECTRE will return at some point in the future.

I think Guy Haines is right on the mark.
