Question about Bond's DB5

Why exactly was the Aston DB5 in Goldeneye registered with the numberplate BMT 214A instead of Goldfinger's BMT 216A? Also does anyone have any clue as to what the true registration of the one at the London Film Museum is?

I recall it had something to do with BMT 216A actually being used as a current plate in the UK at the time.
