The Liquidator and Murderers' Row - both by Lalo Schifrin

(Do they fit your category?)

I so love that OK CONNERY score! And MURDERERS' ROW is also fantastic. (I wish someone would issue it on CD.) I love the theme song to THE LIQUIDATOR which is about as Bond rip-off-y as you can get, but I'm not sure I'd call the score a Bond ripoff. Schifrin goes a different direction with that one.

I'll probably surprise no one by nominating Malcolm Lockyer's DEADLIER THAN THE MALE. I love that "Drummond Theme!" Sadly it's only ever been issued on a promotional 45. I would LOVE to have the complete soundtrack to listen to...

Honorable mention to Bruno Nicolai's SPECIAL MISSION LADY CHAPLIN.

Barry himself penned a pretty awesome Eighties "Bond rip-off" score for THE GOLDEN CHILD, but sadly it was mostly rejected. The CD is fantastic though.

I woldn't say it's exactly a rip off, but Iron Man 3 by Brian Tyler definitely feels like a Bond score to me, even more so than Thomas Newman.  Some cues from his Thor: The Dark World seem evocative of exotic Bond locales as well, much the same way as Barry's The Golden Chilld.

Agree with Murderer's Row and The Liquidator. I would add A Man Called Dagger and a more obvious choice both Derek Flint films. And of course, Where Bullets Fly and The Second Best Secret Agent in the Whole Wide World. That "Charles Vine Theme" is pretty cool. George Clinton's Austin Powers scores are nearly direct ripoffs, and the first Johnny English score is very Bondian. All in all good spy listening.

Great thread. My music library is dominated by soundtracks/original scores.

All of the above are great selections and I too ache for a few to be remastered and released someday.

Also, of Barry's work, "The Specialist" is very Bond and atmospheric and frankly made the movie better. It was very welcome in '94 during the "dark years". Also, that same year, we go a good dose of Non-Bond Bond in both the film and the score of "True Lies".

Both still are on what I've titled my "006.95" playlist. i.e. : Real close to 007, but not quite there.  B)

Yes, The Specialist is a realy great Bondian score from Barry. The movie isn't very good at all, but the music is exellent. I wish it would have been the score of a third Dalton Bond movie.
