I was planning on watching Skyfall with my family, but I was delayed due to traveling so I sadly didn't see any of it on transmission. However, it seems that over 6.33 Million others tuned in for the Christmas Eve film this year! Not only that, but it was the most watched thing of the day (Outside of Eastenders/Coronation Street) A massive accomplishment. It's nice to see a Bond film getting so many viewers on it's terrestrial premiere.

Watched with my family - a Bond film during Christmas period is a must. I don't understand how soap operas can still be so popular around Christmas time, they're just depressing .

They stopped doing "Bond at Christmas", or any other decent high profile stuff at Christmas for a while, the idea being that (1 you show the blockbusters in the weeks or even months before Christmas because (2 that's when you load them full of Christmas advertisements- what's the point of such adverts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

I'm glad to see that ITV have reverted to the old fashioned way of doing things. As for the ratings, well two years on that movie must still be doing something right!

Free-TV premiere for Skyfall in Germany yesterday evening: 7.79 Million, which is a solid 24%. Not bad at all.

I think it's great that, in the age of dvds and instant online access to movies, a Bond movie can still pull in this size of audience on terrestrial tv.

I am old enough to remember when Christmas tv premieres of Diamonds Are Forever and The Man With The Golden Gun were HUGE events on British tv.

Despite knowing it backwards and owning it on dvd for years (and VHS for years before that), I still watched OHMSS at the weekend on ITV. My wife had never seen latter half of it (from the ski chases onwards) and was mightily impressed.

Here here!

Funnily enough, I too watched OHMSS on ITV at the weekend - practically for the first time - and was also mightily impressed. :) Yay for terrestrial TV!

I remember when there always seemed to be a Bond movie on ITV after the Queen's speech on Christmas Day.

Shamefully I would normally be watching the big movie premiere on the BBC at the time! Octopussy was up against the world premiere of E.T in 1990.
