Any ideas what font is used, or could it be specially designed for the production?
The SPECTRE font?

There is a set of positive/negative fonts that works the same way called Faux Oriental and Faux Occidental. But it's only almost that one. I tried combining the positive and the negative original versions (Sony provides EPS files on the press site) to get a better image of the original font. Thought it's Neutraface Display again, with the shadow elements from Faux - it's very close, but it isn't. I also compared with other "usual suspects", like Futura, Avant Garde or Century Gothic, but no matches.
I assume that it's specially made.

Ah, thanks a bunch. And now that I looked it up and saw the examples it was and is used for (Obama's "Change" campaign, for example), I know why it looked so damn familiar. And when I look at the other typefaces from the same designer, I realize that I was on the right track. I'm usually quite good at recognizing fonts, but mostly for those until the mid or late 1990s. A few years ago, colleagues of mine used to consult me before checking the FontBook when they needed to identify a font. Now that I mostly work in a fixed CI I'm not that good at it any more. Need to brush that up...

The bevel effect is cool, with the word somewhat in the shadows. Especially during the video reveal:

Many thanks for the detailing the font specs, guys.
Wonder how long it'll take someone to design the full SPECTRE character pack for us fans to use?

The font for SPECTRE is, IMO, a rather poor-looking font. It doesn't look good on the black background that they put it on, and it really doesn't look good on a white backdrop either.

I agree, I'm not a fan of this font.

While we are discussing the movie title font if could to argued that the actual organisation's title may use the same font as well.

I personally like it. The font, or its use thereof, depicting something in the shadows, half visible, half not.
The MI6-UK boys have for some reason tipped the 'S' upside down as logos to their news stories. Not sure why.

Happens when people don't understand how a font works.

I personally love the font. It's distinctive as belonging to SPECTRE. I wish they moved away from the Casino Royale font for QoS, for example.

Unfortunately, many of the fonts given on these image are incorrect. Some of these fonts didn't exist when the artwork was created. The bad habit of stealing font designs came up with the arrival of computer design. Bill Gates didn't want to pay license fees for one of the most common fonts, Helvetica. The solution was to have a font created that was almost similar and for which Microsoft had the rights. The result is known as the inferior Arial.
Square 721 is a variant of Eurostile (didn't exist in 1973), and I'm not certain if it's the correct font for LALD. I believe (but I'm not certain) that it's a Folio Bold Condensed. Same goes for the MR font (Swiss 911 is just another stolen Helvetica and also didn't exist back then). All fonts from YOLT through MR (with the exception of OHMSS) were Folio variants. The FYEO "Thames" is a stolen Times (not New Roman, because that's the MS version). Also not certain about the Romana given for AVTAK (seems a lot like another stolen one, but not sure what's the original). And the Century Gothic given for CR is plain wrong. That one was Neutraface, just like QoS and SF. I'm sure they would have used Neutraface for SPECTRE too, but the bevel effect is difficult to create with that one. Gotham is not far from it but less playful and more geometric (in the capital S, for example).

Thanks for that, Stomberg. You really know what you are talking! (I don't, by the way...)

The "A"s in the CASINO ROYALE title on the posters do not match up with Neutraface. Century Gothic looks like the right choice to me.
Oh, indeed. Rubbish talking from my side. Reminds me to check my facts first before making bold statements. It's somehow stuck in my mind that they used Neutraface for CR, too. Century Gothic is the correct one for CR.
