THE WAITING GAME
A short film by
ANDREW WALLACE
Based on the character James Bond by
IAN FLEMING
FADE IN:
EXT. A LAKE - NIGHT
We open to darkness but the camera pulls back and we realise
it is the back of a young woman walking along a dirt path in
the woods.
She’s in her late 20’s, carrying a heavy case, making her
way along the path, which winds down toward a vast lake.
It’s dark but the sun is rising in the distance. The woman
cautiously heads downhill, grabbing onto branches as she
gets closer to the lake.
Tall reeds run along the lake, the tips blowing gently
in the wind.
In the reeds, a man’s head rises into view. BOND. He’s
watching her for a distance, moving cautiously through
the reeds.
Bond steps lightly out of the reeds. Dressed in black,
he’s hidden under the cover of darkness.
As he kneels and watches, a figure appears from him. A
large built man in a suit. He comes down and throws a
garrotte around Bond’s neck.
Bond’s thumbs snap up, blocking the garrotte, and the
two men struggle. Bond’s feet kick furiously as he
tries to gain control. With great strength, Bond manages
to force the man over his head and into the tall reeds.
Bond dives down after the man and the two disappear
into the tall reeds.
We pan on the tips of the tall reeds, thrashing around,
until finally, they calm down.
CUT TO:
EXT. BOATHOUSE - NIGHT
The Woman checks her wristwatch. She looks out at the lake
as she notices the sound of a motorboat engine.
Though it is dark, she can hear it approaching. Footsteps
behind alert her and she turns her head.
WOMAN
Who are you?
Bond steps out of the shadows. He’s slightly wet, but
other than that, perfectly fine.
BOND
Bond. James Bond. And you are?
WOMAN
(dismissive)
Waiting for someone. If you’ll excuse me…
Bond puts his hand behind his back. We see he has a
gun ready. Locked and loaded.
BOND
(as camera pushes him on his eyes)
Not a problem. So am I.
FADE TO BLACK.
