I had a poster from AVTAK when I was like 7, up on my wall for years....it's not that bad, but I lump in it in with the so called bad ones that I watch more for a laugh than anything else, that said it's certainly not that bad, but it's not that good either, it just kind of sits in the middle with me....

The party at Zorin's monster home is great, and I think that ROger just loved the opportunity to act like confident spy during this scene - in full view of Zorin, MayDay, Scarpine and the German doc.

The scene where Bond finally meets Stacy is made beautiful by the dialogue and of course Barry's music.

When Mayday gets in the way and advises that Stacy has to go - I love how Moore says "well let me walk you to the chopper!"

Also when MayDay said that it was not necessary and someone would take care of Bond - Bond agitates her by saying "Oh...you'll see to that personally will you?" Then drains his champagne.

Kamal Khan said it best to Bond - "You have a nasty habit of surviving Mr. Bond."

Moore really knew how to behave like c***-disturber.

I am glad there is a large number of CBNers out there that also love AVTAK. So, it wasn't Rogers best 007 entry, but it wasn't his worst either. :)

I like the ending with Bond riding the mooring line out to the bridge. I wish the music there was on the soundtrack. But, noooooo. The ending with the shower and Pussy the car are nice also.

I give this a pass.. because of the fire!

I still like it allot.. but the bar was so high after his last 2 movies!!

BUT as a whole.. I like this movie more and more!! very good.. begining & ending!!! the middle is slightly off.. but hey over all the movie is holds up! and is allot better now then in the past!

I think it is clearly better then any Pierce bond movie!.. no contest!.. maybe tomorrow never dies is tied.. but the rest of his are all off.

Yep. Count me in.

AVTAK was my first theater Bond. Walken was outstanding. I could probably watch him read the phonebook. May Day was over the top, but, she's a Bond film henchman(person?) so that's expected.

I would lose the firetruck chase, though. But I do love Moore's response to "Where's the fire?". "On your rear end" delivered with his great American/Southern accent.

"A View to a Kill" was the first 007 soundtrack I ever purchased and I still think that some of Barry's best work was featured in the movie. My favorite track is the precredits sequence from the moment Bond is discovered to immediately before the (ill-advised) Beach Boys soundtrack.

The change in Zorins demeanor the moment he learns Bonds true identity and the whole way Walken portrayed the character in the scene in Zorins office is classic. I also think he was suitably psychotic at the scene in the mine when he is having a ball killing everyone.
May Day was great fun, it's a shame she never really had to tangle with Bond, but Grace Jones did a good job of playing her OTT.

You know something DLibrasnow? Your going to be real popular with me. I saw A View To A Kill the day I got out of the fourth grade; but the screen was soft in order to hide Moore's age and it burned my eyes. Plus, the theater I saw the film in used a red gunbarrell which was odd. AVTAK has one of the best scores, great villians including Dr.Mortner or whatever he's called(Hans Glau). A wonderful fight on the Golden Gate Bridge as others have pointed out, and one of Moore's best performances; much more serious than his light and comical Octopussy performance. The Beach Boys song always fit well into the pre-title sequence for me and even though I love the ski chase I still get most excited by the one in TSWLM. I also like the films more down to earth(fyeo) type look and who is to say San Francisco is a bad location? It's not, and any film that uses both the Eiffel Tower and Golden gate Bridge will be high on my list. Walken's great, Grace Jone's is better than Jaws in certain ways, and the action works well despite Moore's age. Stacey doesn't bother me and if you hear her raspy voice while she giggles after Bond makes a one liner on the Golden Gate Bridge, you can tell that is just the way her voice is so she is certainly going to have a strange or partially annoying yell. I am definitely a member of the AVTAK appreciation club cause it's one of my favorite Moore installments.

You realise, of course, that you have now turned Freemo into a pop icon as a result of this, don't you.

So you've said. A long time ago there was this Bond board called "Bondian Mayhem" which is no longer available and the sites creator, Scott Reznor, closed it because he got tired of running the board. Freemo and myself were both apart of that board. There was this one member called "BondNumber6" who was causing problems so serious that one could call him a psycho. Anyway, it turned members against one another. I opened a topic about how I thought the Blofeld in OHMSS was a clone of the Blofeld in YOLT. Just for the sake of insulting me, Freemo(called Dr.Yes in those days and still is on Nightly's Bond board), responded to the thread when bad blood started to shake and said "That topic by CZ sucked worse than a vacume cleaner on steriods." It sounded stupid, but Freemo was obviously getting the BondNumber6 flu bug just like the rest of us. Aside from that, I always felt Freemo had an ego, and he thinks he's the worlds great authority on Bond. If I have turned him into a pop icon, well that's not so bad since he was always a big presence on internet communities. Well back to the topic ladies and gentlemen:

I'll vouch for what a nice series that was, DLibrasnow. Although I'm not an AVTAK supporter, the series really made me think twice about it not being as bad as I had once thought. I can't agree with you that it's a great movie, but I like all Bond movies in one way or another.

I like AVTAK. Look at my username;). It's grown on me over the years. The first half is really good with the horse racing, it's the second half that slightly falls apart but it's still good. The cast is one of the best and Roger Moore and Patrick MacNee have a great chemstry together. I love when Bond is being an *** to Tibbet telling him it looked like he polished his shoes with an oily rag and when Tibbet is carrying all his luggage and Bond says "Oh, let me help you." and grabs an umbrella.:) Their scenes together are very funny.

I like the music. I like the whole surfing bit in the beginning, Roger Moore is a friendly Bond face you accept, I like Patrick Mcnee and his scenes. I like the stuff under the water, Bond breathinh tyre air.

The Paris stuff is excellent. May Day-Grace Jones is one of the best bond girls-threatering-tough. Christopher Walken is a great villian, and that actor who is with Zorin, can't remember his name, but he was first to introduce Bond to the stables, he's got this cool voice, seen him in other stuff as well, like The Pretender tv series .

The golden gate bridge ending was interesting. The fire truck stuff and those old police cars, has dated, but the burning building, and getting out with the crowds cheering was cool.

The first name of the actor in question is Patrick (I think) and his last name begins with a B...

Yes, I believe Grace Jones and Dolph Lundgren were dating at the time AVTAK came out.

The problem is that AVTAK is so inconsistent it isn't even funny. The PCS is fine - the Beach Boys song doesn't even bother me. The horse race stuff and the early scenes at Zorin's pad bores the hell outta me - ditto for the stable scene and the worst fist fight in movie history, let alone Bond history. I liked the steeplechase and Bond sucking air out of the tire, though.

Things pick up once Bond hits San Francisco, though. Loved the underwater sequence - especially the top-notch music that makes you think for a second that you're watching an '80s version of Thunderball (oops, already been there, done that). LOVED the fight at Stacey's house; despite one of his lame-*** straight-leg kicks, Roger Moore (or at least his stunt double) is in fine form here.

Things go downhill starting with the dinner scene, however, and it's not just Bond's preparation of the dish that no doubt made AVTAK future Bond screenwriter Bruce Feirstein's least favorite Bond movie. The whole scene is something out of Bond bizarro-world where nothing is quite what it seems, featuring mumbled, inane, half-baked dialogue that is hands-down the worst the series has ever seen. "That was delicious - and the way you handled those men." "Those thugs might come back." Yeesh...

As for the questionable pie itself, well, I've learned how to deal with it from this perspective: character development. Somehow, in the course of 14 films, Bond had went from a brutal, woman-beating thug to an almost grandfatherly, nurturing type. Call it enlightenment or something.

It's all downhill from there, with the possible exception of the escape from the burning skyscraper. As for the fire truck chase, can someone tell me why Bond climbed out on that ladder in the first place? Hands-down the worst chase in the entire series, and I'm counting the moon-buggy chase from DAF in that category.

Despite horrendous backscreening and the laughable stealth blimp, I quite like the fight aboard the Golden Gate, if only for Dr. Carl's (my namesake's) screams of "Max . . . MAX!" and his screwed-in monacle.

This movie had SO MUCH potential. However, it has started to grow on me a bit - after all, I wouldn't have named myself after one of its characters if it didn't.

Incidentally, is this or is this not one Bond movie that has been REALLY well-served by TBS's and ABC's consistent TV showings? It didn't exactly burn up the box office back in 1985, yet it seems to be one of the first Bond movies a lot of people have ever seen.

ok I just watched AVTAK 2 seconds ago..

They have an amazing begining! (not the pre title..that was sorta average/weak)

But the begining of the actually story.. the horses, france, all that is great!! & a great amazing ending!!

the middle is the problem.

** What is wrong with it is to things:

1) There isn't a jaw dropping stunt/chase.. this is whats missing from this movie..the stunts/action is not great.. WE need this in the middle.. because we dont have that.. the movie drags in the middle..

2) The Music.. yes the title song is great, and John barry's instrumental is fine and nice.. but there MUST be more "action music".. and they didn't play the Bond Theme really much..It should have been more

the movie is sorta quiet and when there is music it is NOT the right feel when there is a action scene.

Barry should have made ONE more piece of music for this movie.
