With Activision no longer doing Bond games, and the new Bond coming out next year, will they'll be a new game, and who will make it?

As far as we know, there's been no deal for a new development company to take over the license.

And, as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing.  With the exception of all but one or two games, the Bond gaming franchise has been abysmal.

Still, I bet they'll find some studio next year to churn out some horrifically bad movie tie-in to go along with Bond 24.

Only game I've liked of all the Bond games is Goldeneye: Reloaded for XB360. I'm a fan of the COD franchise, so GE following the same format worked for me lol!

I think that nothing has been planned, so far.

They will most likely announce that a new game is in development around next spring; the game will be made in six months and will result as a tie-in of Bond 24 with a 6-hours campaign, bad graphics, rushed story and annoying glitches.

EDIT: My money lies with you, Walecs... Unfortunately.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if they do hire a studio in time for the next bond film, that the game have nothing to do with said film at all. These days it seems as though film tie-ins are constantly a disappointment, as they have to live up to certain high expectations. I far and away prefer stand-alone titles for this exact reason. Games like 007 Bloodstone, 007 Everything or Nothing, 007 Nightfire, etc. are usually much more entertaining to play through... In my opinion.

If you want fun to play tie-ins for Bond, stick to GoldenEye 007, The World Is Not Enough, or From Russia With Love.

I'm not sure about how Bond games are going to work out. Recently telltale games I believe that's the company wanted to make a Bond game but they wanted to make it one button prompts like Walking Dead and I'm not much of a fan of that idea. My favorite is obviously Goldeneye but aside from that Nightfire was insanely fun that's one of the Bond games I always thought would be absolutely amazing with multiplayer. I played countless hours of that game the grapple guns, Trip mines everything about that game was entertaining.

I hope they go with a smaller developer if they do decide to do another multi-year deal with someone. EA did a better job than Activision, but they never really completely delivered.

GoldenEye 64 is a classic game in every sense of the word. I thought Nightfire and Everything or Nothing were enjoyable too. TWINE and Agent Under Fire are mediocre games at best...and the others like Quantum of Solace, GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, GoldenEye Reloaded (which has to be the worst FPS I've ever played in my life), and Tomorrow Never Dies were downright terrible.

A new touch-based, free-to-play mobile game for tablets and smartphones was just announced by MGM Interactive and GLU Mobile. Scheduled for release in 2015.

Everything or Nothing is the best ‘Bond’ game of the lot, and it’s the template I wish was followed and expanded upon in the future. It’s everything I want to see in a Bond game, and was a big step in the right direction for the franchise. An original story, third person and with a proper hand to hand combat system. Lots of vehicle use (motorbikes, cars, helicopters and a tank) and inventive gadgets (the Q spider is fantastic). It's the first time they had the full likeness of the cast, as well as their voice talent. The Bond moments feature is also worth mentioning. It gave the game personality, and wasn’t just shoot everything in sight blandness which unfortunately reared its head with the COD, 007 Legends rubbish.

I really dont understand the lack of interest games developers have towards James Bond. This is one of the biggest movie properties in the world, movies that feature a character and formula tailor made for gaming, in particular modern gaming with their  often Uncharted-esque mix of story, globetrotting, action, romance and setpieces, and its a license that contains one of the most popular and most fondly remembered games of all time. You'd think games developers would be falling over eachother trying to get the rights, and to make something really special, not just a lame cash in. I really dont get it.

I still live in hope that a studio like Rocksteady might one day get their hands on the license and make a real Bond game.

Agreed, it boggles the mind. I enjoyed From Russia With Love for the most part and respected its general ambition, but it lacked the same depth of EoN. Blood Stone was a respectable effort with the same general mechanic, but again, it didn’t reach the heights of EoN for my liking. What Bond games need is to forget about the films and meeting cash-in deadlines, ala the Arkham Batman games. That’s the right approach. Take your sweet time and craft something special. Seeing the in-game footage for Arkham Knight is truly breathtaking, and there's no reason whatsoever Bond can't have something like that. Awesome takes time, and then sales figures would rise.

I hope so. 007 Legends is a great disappointent. It was so bad...I haven't even played it yet! :P I was quite impressed with Blood Stone 007 however. I still find myself playing it now and then.

Bloodstone was easily the best Bond game since EON. QOS was good too, but I was always bothered with random explosive things to shoot in the middle of a ballroom

I think a huge part of it is that Bond fans want to feel like James Bond, whereas gamers and casual fans just want to feel like they're playing GoldenEye again. This creates a conflict for games developers who have to take a huge risk if they want to get their hands dirty and make new kind of Bond game.

Personally I'm not the world's biggest GE fan and a lot of that has to do with the fact that I just don't really enjoy FPS games that much - I think they take away from the cinematic potential of games and they're a rather lazy approach to a licence like Bond. Everyone knows 007 shoots people, but the most satisfying setpieces, fights and Bond moments in the films (not to mention the actual novels!) rarely actually have anything to do with him shooting his gun. To me, a Bond FPS is almost as uninteresting as a Batman FPS where you just go around throwing batarangs at everyone. I will say that I really enjoyed the QoS game and if Bond games have to be first-person shooters, that was an interesting compromise.

EoN was a terrific Bond game, but its linear gameplay and ridiculous sci-fi elements date it somewhat. Also the Aston Martin level was downright terrible. An ideal Bond game for me would be a blend of Arkham City's lavish open-world environments, designs and control mechanic, with Just Cause 2's gameplay - put Bond on an exotic island where he has to infiltrate an evil organisation's lair. This approach lends itself to missions set on land, sea and air with plenty of vehicular possibilities, subterranean locations and a climactic showdown in a SPECTRE-esque superstructure. It's such a simple idea it's ridiculous that there hasn't been a developer brave enough to just do it. Hopefully with Rocksteady's Batman series seemingly ending with the splendid-looking Knight, there may be hope for them (or a developer like them) to inherit Bond.

An Arkham-style take on YOLT or OHMSS would be well worth my hard earned cash.

I think the perceived lack of interest is more developers not really knowing what to do with the licence - I think the preference for style over plot in many Bond films (and indeed Fleming's novels at times) make it difficult to translate into games.

There may be something to this. It would be hard in today's gaming industry to try and find a new wrinkle for a Bond game that isn't partially lifted from or inspired by another release - it's difficult to be innovative with a familiar property.

there's such a goldmine out there of the old films to turn into games.  They did FRWL as a video game. There's all those old movies they can use or even combine together....

Ok guys, we all know that the Bond Licence has the potential to make a great game. Since Activision won't make another one (and I assume neither will any other major corporation) what do you think about Telltale games? As we know, Kevin Bruner (Telltale's president and one of the co-funders) expressed he's interested to make a telltalesque Bond game. It might work - they've just finished The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead Season 2. Now it's just Borderlands and Game of Thrones. And they have a lot of time before the release of Bond 24. I would definitely buy that game.

I don't believe that 1 billion $ movie sequel doesn't get the game tie-in.

I really hope the new Bond game is similar to BloodStone as in 3rd person shooter. I think that style suits Bond better because he is a spy not a soldier and that style has worked pretty well with Splinter Cell. Activision and Eurocom really made a balls of 007 Legends so I'm hoping the next developer and publishers can really bring Bond back as a good gaming contender. I think Telltale and Ubisoft could potentially be good contenders for this.  :D Fingers crossed we will hear more in the coming months.

I am a sucker for all things Bond, and all I can do is pray people have learnt from the disaster that was '007: Legends' and give us something in time that does for Bond what 'Arkham Asylum' did for BatMan.

...yeah, right, as if Bond deserves "that" sort of love and care and passion put into a game...!

I agree, something along the lines of Bloodstone would be ideal.  However, we'll likely continue to receive gameplay similar to whatever the "game of the year" is, and that this Bond game will rival it.  Unfortunately, it will be rushed....

Or, could we be really lucky, and a developer has something radically different that can become a game changer.  Pun intended...

There was one in active development from Raven Software, but it was cancelled early on. Probably due to the very poor sales of Blood Stone. There exists footage of the game on youtube, so you can check it out.

I would love to see a developer along the lines of Rocksteady or Telltale Games take a crack at Bond. Although, I'd rather Telltale focus on their Game of Thrones game first. That said, I agree with tdalton that it'll most likely be a crappy Bond 24 tie in game, thus continuing the trend of awful CoD rip-offs. God I hate 007 Legends.

Happy I will be on the day when James Bond lights up my Xbox One gaming system... Hopefully that day is someday relatively soon.
