One of the stars of one of my favourite 1960s ITC adventure series, "The Champions", has passed away. Alexandra Bastedo  played scientist and special agent Sharron McCready in the series. She also appeared in the 1967 Bond spoof "Casino Royale" and many other TV and film productions, and she became a real champion of the worthwhile cause of animal welfare.

 

I was shocked and saddened at the news. She was a star of a series which, along with other ITC shows, kept me entertained as a child, and later when it was re-run on both the BBC and ITV.

Back in the 1960's, in the wake of the Bond craze, a number of British secret agent shows ran on the US television networks, and "The Champions" was one of them.  I remember Alexandra fondly from that series and from her brief appearance in CR 67.  She is departed much too soon.

She was also the radio operator in the film version of John Gardner's "The Liquidator".
