Sensibly, if he wants an amphibious car he should have something built from scratch rather than trying to retro-fit a body shell that’s thirty-odd years old.  He should just hang the original from the ceiling in his mansion or something and display it as a piece of art.

 

Of course, he may have been misquoted by whoever wrote the original article. It has been known to happen.

I'm nowhere near an expert on such problems but I suspect an actual working conversion car/submersible (with dry interior/pressurised cabin?) would call for a fresh start from scratch; perhaps also for a different size as you can't easily fit the respective parts for the optional use (wheels, rudder, outboard propeller engines) inside such a relatively small vehicle as the Esprit.
