I just watched the official English blu ray version of Casino Royale '67 and what I saw was a not so good picture quality, with constant a lot of vertical stripes from top to bottom throughout the movie.

Is this normal? Does anyone have this blu ray and do you have the same problems?

If not, could this be a manufacturing defect? The disc has no scratches or other visible damages.

I have bought it on the English Amazon, so maybe I can send it back?!

Mine is the same. I think that is the transfer so if you change it, it will be the same. This has been pointed out in some reviews. If you turn your Blu-ray player to output at 720p just for playing that disc they don't show. A bit of a nuisance but there you go.

My copy's alright.

This seems to be a player-related issue, according to Blu-ray.com:

A further note: While preparing this review and creating screenshots, I have played back Casino Royale on three different players: a Panasonic BDP-50, a PS3 and a BD-ROM drive on my desktop using playback software. On the BD-ROM drive, I noticed significant vertical "banding" in the latter third of the film, but this was nowhere to be seen on the Panasonic or the PS3. This confirms, yet again, that the playback device can be a critical element in what one sees on a Blu-ray.

Thanks for your replies!

I will try the advice MarkA gave me.

I have now about 100 blu rays and this is the only disc which has this virtical lines showing. Very strange!

The result is that watching the dvd is a more enjoyable experience than watching the blu ray.

And most enjoyable to not watch it all. ;)

I have both a Panasonic, Pioneer and Playstation and I have noticed banding on all three. I have noticed this on two other disks. The first Tomb Raider and the Argento film Deep Red. I have found in all cases playing in 720p reduces this.

You're right: I almost forgot about that one, but a couple of years ago, when I had bought my first blu ray player, I got Tomb Raider too and it had the same vertical lines as the CR one. Thanks for mention it! Back then I thought that is was just a cheap and not well-made blu ray disc.

I sold that one, the dvd is much better.
