As a seven-year-old, René Lehmann loved the 007 mobile so much he decided to support the football team of the same name

East German Villan René Lehmann will be spying on his beloved Villa this week thanks to a special bond – James Bond.

René first started supporting the claret and blues more than three decades ago after mistakenly associating the club with OO7’s Aston Martin car.

And the 39-year-old, who is the new chairman of the German Lions supporters club, hopes Villa will have a licence to thrill during their stay in Deutschland.

“In the GDR, every football club belonged to a nationally owned company or factory,” he recalled.

“If you are seven years old, you have no reason to believe that it could be different in the rest of the world.

"At that age I was a huge fan of the car of James Bond so I thought Aston Villa is the club of Aston Martin!”
