As many of you may know from my posts I am a huge action figure fan and am the generation that grew up with the best action figures ever-I'm an 80's child. Super Powers, Secret Wars, GI Joe, Star Wars, Transformers, Masters of the Universe were popular boys toys. Girls grew up with Barbie, Rainbow Bright, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, She-Ra, My Little Pony and the Cabbage Patch Kids.

 

 

I'll wax nostalgia on here on past toy lines, and current ones too. So what did you like growing up, do you still collect? And do you end your nightly prayers by thanking God for ebay like I do?

One of the 1st toys I remember having was the Mego Spider Man action figure, which some may call a doll since it was 8 inches tall and had a cloth costume. I loved it! I still have it and from time to time take it out. Mego was THE toy company to get in the 1970's, not only did they have Marvel and DC action figures, but they had Star Trek, Happy Days, Wizard of Oz, etc. If it was a tv or movie, they bought the license, which is sadly what lead to their fall. By 1982, Mego was on its last leg, and folded. You could find some of their toys up thru 1984 at some toy stores, I was able to get my Mego's at a party favor store. I had Spidey, Superman and Hulk. Ah, good times. Mego made a small line of 3.75 inch figures too, but they were poorly sculpted and painted by todays standards. Mego's still live on thru Diamond Select remaking them for Star Trek, and they were prominently featured in Toyfare's Twisted Mego Theater which lead to the development of Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

 

(Mego is pronounced Me Go, and sadly doesn't rhyme with Lego)

Well by action figures I have all of my barbie dolls, groovy girls and playsets in my closet. I also love collecting stuffed animals of various things as well.

For me, it's Legos all the way. Just bought and built a biplane for my birthday. I also have the Black Pearl, an orange bullet train, Spongebob's pineapple and the Krusty Krab on my shelf. I love my legos.

I thought about posting this on the Star Wars thread, but since this is a toy topic I'll do it here. Many people have asked me what are the essential Star Wars action figures you need for your collection? While some want every character made, some just want the basics. I'll give you a little of both, who you need and will place a mark by someone you may not need but not a bad idea to have. I will do this by movies since its a lot to put down.

The ESB List isn't as long, trust me. I would've included playsets but they are lacking in the Hasbro Line.
