Crosshills residents could be shaken and stirred when the village library celebrates the 60th anniversary of Ian Fleming’s classic Casino Royale.

The book was the first of the series of James Bond novels and next month celebrated British crime writer David Mark will visit the library to discuss all things Bond.

It is part of the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival and its annual “big read” which encourages as many people as possible to read one particular novel at the same time. This year Mr Mark, author of Hull-based detective novel Dark Winter, is the reader in residence for the festival.

There are 1,500 copies of the book that will be given away to reading groups for libraries involved.

Mr Mark said: “When I was asked to be reader in residence for this year’s festival and take the lead on some get-togethers about Casino Royale, I jumped at the chance. I can’t wait to get out and meet readers and fans.”

The Crosshills event is on Wednesday, June 5, at 7.30pm and tickets cost £3. Call 0845 0349533
