I need some ideas and inspiration for my BF's 30th birthday party which is going to be bond themed!  He is bond mad, so it seems fitting to host a James Bond party!  I need some ideas for entertainment, music, food, decor and stuff like that.  Is the casino theme a bit overdone?  His favourite film is Goldfinger and perhaps a Goldfinger theme would be good??  I found  this article on entertainment ideas for james bond events (http://www.scarlette...-party-or-event) and I like the idea of a James Bond lookalike perhaps?  Has anyone used one before?  Will they do down well with guests?  Should I get the guests to dress up too??  Help!

Welcome to the forum 00Khoo! :D

I've never used an official team to dress a themed party, I reckon you could do more yourself and save a great deal of money, but of course if you have the means then go for it as they certainly seem to deliver the main goods.

Doing it yourself though, there's just the few basic elements I think you need to get that James Bond atmosphere grounded:

  • Get guests to dress up for sure! Involve them in the theme or they won't enjoy it as much probably, and your BF will feel like they've all put lots of effort it
  • Games - Simple ones like "Who said this..." or "What song is this lyric from..." or a simple-ish Bond quiz. If you want some questions for casual and hardcore fans, just ask! Charades maybe, of certain Bond characters and films? Just hope no-one gets 'Quantum Of Solace' or 'Octopussy'!
  • Get some of the movie soundtracks / compilation CDs for background music. Straight away that sets the mood for the party.
  • Cocktails are a must - a staple of the Bond party
  • Casino themes are done a lot, but that is also iconic for Bond. Bring what you can - poker chips, card games, or just some casino decor makes it a bit more effective
  • Food should be pretty basic and fun party food - the food of Bond is very high class and not your usual selection! Besides, a party is a party after all so don't try too hard to make it authentic. You could name some of the dishes after Bond themed names perhaps? Just a bit of fun.
  • Decor - maybe print out A4 size pictures of all the Bond posters and stick them around the room just to surround everyone in Bond goodness? Slver, red, gold and black balloons are always constant Bond colours too.
  • If 'Goldfinger' is his favourite film, a cheap and fun little gimmick will be to wrap your index finger in gold foil!

There are lots you could do, but don't feel pressured by how much is out there for Bond as it's quite a specific choice, but if you get the basics, then it's bound to be a Bond theme without fail!

Keep us updated how you go and we'll try help with anything else possible!  :)

Okay casino themed.. I don't know where you would be having this party? outside? indoors? I would make sure everyone dressed up in tux's or dresses for sure. Then I would cover tables or anywhere in green felt or just green fabric to mimic a casino table. Yeah definitely use Bond soundtracks and play them throughout the party.
