Okay I watched some documentary about the National Film Registry and I didn't know that the public could recommend films to be considered to the registry. Well from what I can tell no Bond film has been added, while Goldfinger has been nominated before in the past. With the big success of Skyfall and the 50th anniversary this could be a good time for a Bond film to be included in the registry. For information about the process you can visit the library of congress site or this link http://www.loc.gov/film/vote.html , basciallly all you have to do is send an email to [email protected] with a list of your films you think should be considered in the list, the film has to be at least ten years old so Quantum of Solace cannot be submitted as a nomination, you include the name of the film and the year it was released. The site also asks you to only submit 50 recommendations a year and to number your recommendations. I just thought this was really interesting that they took suggestions from the public. If one Bond film had to be admitted what do you think it should be? I personally will submit On Her Majesty's Secret Service, if anything it could get the discussion started on the Bond series.
Time for a Bond Film to be in the National Registry

Good idea!
I guess FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE should be there, at least.

I think 'From Russia With Love' too in the case of their guideline of: “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
That film sums up everything about James Bond of the books and the films, the world he operates in, the global enemy at that time and the lines between good and bad.
Cracking idea - I've got my e-mail ready!

Well, it is the National Film Registry of the US. Meaning its sole purpose is to record, preserve and protect specifically works of a US-American relevance. The Bond series right from the start - and for over fifty years now - took great pains to emphasise its British origin and heritage. Sure, it is a series which in its essence is shaped to the preferences and laws of Hollywood and its specific restrictions, and yet it's not an ordinary Hollywood product. I suppose if pressed you might argue both ways, for and against including a Bond film in the Registry. But I suspect there would already be one of the classics included - GOLDFINGER or THUNDERBALL for example - had Eon wanted to be recognised in this way.

Nominate AVTAK. A good chunk of it is in the U.S. Even premiered there first before the UK release.
