Actually, for the next time the Bond films are released, I think they should do the opposite, ditch the standardised matching covers and discs, and give these films back their unique individual identities. Anyone else prefer, for example, the funky, colourful, invidiual film specific menus on the Special Editions DVDs, over the drab, sterile, uniformed menus of the Ultimate Editions? One of these says YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE more than the other, and it's not the one with YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE written in standardisd font. Alot of these movies, the earlier ones especially, are terrific fun in their own right, and deserve individual attention and recognition. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE deserves to be YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, not just JAMES BOND FILM PRODUCT #5 to be filed between JAMES BOND FILM PRODUCT #4 and JAMES BOND FILM PRODUCT #6 in your JAMES BOND FILM PRODUCT boxset. It's time they cast off the conformist, straitjacket templates and get creative, with cover, disc and menu designs that capture the style, the feel, of each particular film. They deserve nothing less.

This along, with using the original posters for the Blu-ray/DVD covers. It's just plain arrogance to constantly replace them with shitty, half-arsed, badly Photoshopped cutouts of Bond + Bond girl against some background that doesn't match.

I agree both of you completely. Unfortunately, what the fans think doesn't usually matter when there's a buck to be made. When that's the case it's usually fast and cheap as possible.

I would really like a legitimate explaination sometime as to why not just the Bond series but other films as well, don't just use the original poster artwork. It's readily available. Do they have to pay royalties to a Bob Peak or such artists and don't want to pay more if they don't have to?

As far as those distinctive menus for each film on the first releases, those were great. I think the difference was back then was VHS was king and DVD was the new niche market that had a chance to do what laserdiscs couldn't - break through to the mass market, so this was one of the many hooks.  It worked. When it got popular and eventally the new standard, of course the easiest, cheapest route to the masses was initiated. They figure all people want is the films, why go to a special length getting there, thus eliminating the small pleasure some of us liked in getting there that made it extra special.

Ten years ago the booklets were almost standard and now you just get the DVD and a very cheap case. Blu-ray is meant to be the ultimate celebration of a film but they don't usually go to any special lengths to put anything else in extra, except for some gimmicky extras for huge films like the Batmans or something. Look no further than the Bond 50 set for the current standard. No booklet and a bonus disc with montages and basically useless content we could find on You Tube.

Woh, and I thought I was fussy when complaining about lack of original poster artwork!

Know exactly what you are saying though, and another thing that annoys me, is the way all the disc menu's are the same, except for

Quantum of solace and Skyfall.

This annoyed me too, but I figured that between getting them to create new digital content and getting them to create a small run of discs with simple artwork on it, the latter was much more likely to occur!

Gotta agree with tdalton on this one. Somebody makes the effort to join CBn and make one post for this?

I can maybe see those who are annoyed when their DVD cases don't match somewhat, since those sit on a shelf and you can see them every day. These Blu-rays are in a book setting, it's not like you're looking at them constantly. If I want to complain about anything on the Blu-ray it's the lack of substantial bonus content. But I don't need to create a thread, much less a petition, to do so.

I understand what you're saying, but for me and many others, the packaging, artwork, etc are part of the fun!  If that wasn't true then all DVDs, Blu-rays, etc would just be blank and delivered in white paper sleeves with black typewritten letters indicating the title.  I also agree with you on the lack of bonus content, but as indicated above, there is a far lesser chance of getting that remedied than the problem that is the subject of my petition.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest because I had no intention of putting my Skyfall blu-ray in the Bond 50 box set, especially since mine comes in a shiny steelbook case.

What does bother me s that they saved a place for Skyfall in the first place.  They shouldn't have bothered!

See, if you're a little OCD like me, saving a place for Skyfall is very important.  When you have an ongoing series and you want to buy a set of all the ones released to date, you need to have a defined stopping point, and one that is not arbitrary.  Cutting it off at the 50th year was perfect in that regard, but in order for it to work, it had to include Skyfall.  That's why we can't leave Skyfall out.

I admit I am a little niffed it doesn't fit with the style of Bond50. But of course lots of people don't have that box-set, for the disc to appear very dark and muted to fit in, other people would be a little annoyed probably of that look.

I guess people lose whatever style they choose.

Oh well...at least I have it. If anything, I'm annoyed there's no picture of either Eve or Severine on the Bond50 sleeve next to 2012 in the Blu-Ray boxset unlike the other 22 girls featured...but that's a different thread altogether! :)

This bugs the hell out of me as well, but like with the menu or the bonus content, it is easier for them to run off a batch of discs with new labels than to create a whole new book just to change the look of the last page.

What they should have done - apart from the above - is have some kind of voucher or purchase code exclusive to your box set.  You fill it in online along with a payment, and then MGM send you a Skyfall disc for the box set that matches the rest of the set.  The payment would be much lower than buying the blu-ray, of course, because you wouldn't get the regular case and artwork, etc.

Yep, that's what they should have done.

This is exactly what I have in mind and what is suggested in my petition.

I am very fine with it. As Skyfall is my least favorite Bond of all time, I am happy not to see it when I open my box.

To each his own, and while I'm not of the camp that thinks that Skyfall is bar-none the best Bond film of all time, it is very difficult for me to imagine how it is someone's least favorite.

In response to the OP:  No, it doesn't bother me even remotely.  I don't display all my DVDs openly.  That's for college kids.  My DVDs are stored in a cabinet and taken out only for watching.  Which, by the way, is the reason I bought them.  The films are what I watch - not the DVD storage case artwork.

I also store my movies in a cabinet and take them out for watching.  It is not about any "college kids" seeing the artwork in the book or the matching discs, it is about my enjoyment of the packaging.  As I said above, the packaging and artwork are a fun component of owning these items.

This is a fine idea and one that would really allow them to have fun with the process of laying out each one to match the theme of the film.  Alas, I think this would require too much effort and creativity for them to pull off.

Thank you for anyone who read this and already signed the petition, and if you haven't, please click the link below and sign.  Even if you think I am totally insane for taking the time to do this, unless you vehemently disagree with my position, you don't lose anything by simply clicking, signing, and sharing.  Thanks!!
