Just came across the following;

http://www.bleedingc...elease-planned/

I do hope this doesn't come to pass but it would sadly appear to be the next logical step if MGM/Fox hope to continue making money from the format and the back catalogue. The latest blu-ray box set (in terms of visual/audio quality) arguably represents the best we are likely to see the films before the possible advent of 4K technology which is still some time away.

Therefore the only hope the studios have to try and sell them all to us again is to bring something fresh to the table which is what the above link suggests to be the case. Personally speaking I have very little time for the current 3D format especially when employed as a 'bolt on' afterthought and the prospect of it being applied to the Bond films does not particularly appeal.

I would much rather they consider doing 'extended/director cuts' (where practical) then see the above come to pass but I guess that the market will ultimately determine what will be.

Paul.

I don't buy this. Looks like something fan-made. Besides that, why start with a film like Dr. No when something like Moonraker or one of the modern films would make much more sense.

The cover looks like a bootleg to me and the idea is something the Bond producers seemed to have avoided with the production of Skyfall... so I'm very reticent to believe this.

I do see that one of the less reputable websites on the internet seems to have a downloadable version available. I'm planning on checking it out and will definitely find a good way to buy it if it's legitimate!

I'll leave an update here if I'm able to get a demo... but right now I'm guessing it's just a software conversion.

I've looked at the "disreputable" site again and there are a few screenshots... it's most definitely a software conversion, but it's not the WORST software conversion I've seen.

It's still definitely NOT worth a buy!

Despite owning a 3D TV, and about six or seven films, I cannot imagine ever wanting to watch Bond in 3D, just

doesn't sit right with me.

If the Bond series is "re-created" well in 3D, I can most certainly see a demand for it.  I especially think it could work best if the 3D is used to create convincing depth to enhance the location photography and make some of those sweeping landscape shots, fights and chases look AMAZING!

The conversion would have to be realistic and on par with a film like 'Titanic' (or at least what I've seen so far of 'Top Gun') to make me get behind it, but it seems that more and more of the 3D conversion teams are beginning to understand that they can't just half-*ss the work, end up with products like 'The Last Airbender', 'The Clash of the Titans' or 'The Deathly Hallows' and expect to get a good amount of people to buy the Blu-ray 3D discs once they've duped a good amount of people into buying tickets to (at times) only break even on the cost of the conversion.

It's true that I'm more interested in getting good 3D conversions of films like 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy and the 'Star Wars' films (I didn't see Episode 1, but I didn't hear much of anything promising), but Bond could definitely work!

This will never be a good idea.

It only works as a gimmick for certain films. James Bond doesn't need 3D and isn't meant to be 3D. It's too busy to be converted to 3D, so leave it at 2D.

Yeah, it's funny: I like 3D a lot and will happily watch anything in it (I was even watching Raiders on IMAX and thinking it would look great converted to 3D!), but Bond just doesn't seem to fit with 3D somehow.

This Dr No news smells very fishy.

Words cannot describe how I loath this current 3D craze. It was a poor gimmick in the early days of cinema, it was a poor gimmick in the 1950's and 1980's and it is still a poor gimmick in the 2010's. In the end all the technological gee-whiz don't mean a thing if the story and acting do not work - a good director with good actors and script could make a film with equipment one step further from a VHS camcorder and it still would work.

Thanks, I'll pass.

You make a good point, but most of us here have the feeling that a lion's share of the Bond films have stories and acting that DO work.

My feeling is that a good movie with good 3D is just icing on the cake!

In my opinion they do not need that kind of toppings at all. They were shot as 2D movies and they should remain as such. Besides I have a hunch that this current 3D craze will start to fade in 2-3 years time. Maybe we will get Smell-O-Rama next?

I'm sure the current 3D craze will fade as it did in the year or so after 'Avatar'.  It'll keep on coming back from time to time just as it has since its first big hits in the early 50's.  It's also likely that, especially with the availability of home video equipment that supports polarized/active-LCD glasses 3D, movies will fairly consistently be released in "three dimensions."

As far as I know Smell-O-Rama hasn't been very popular outside of children's TV programming... and I must say that the one movie I've seen with such a feature (Spongebob Squarepants 4D) made the theater constantly smell quite disgusting.
