I dont' mean this a slight, since i personally love the Brozera... anyway, tonally/structurally it seems kind of...

Goldeneye-Casino Royale- A joyful and more pomp and splendor opening

Quantum of Solace-Tomorrow Never Dies- More big picture type, with a broader scale and lots and lots of running around

Skyfall- The World Is Not Enough- A lot more introspective one that speaks closer to the characters, almost seems a character study and drama than action

GE-CR same director
TND-QoS script problems. QoS hit by writers' strike, TND - numerous writers worked on it, and Spottiswode is on the record as saying there wasn't a finished script when they started (I think he said it was one of the most frustrating and difficult working experiences of his career); hence both films heavy on action.
TWINE-SF both directors coming with an "arty" background rather than an action resume.

One can only surmise that Bond 24 will follow DAD and have both a laser beam and an invisible something.... :)

Well of the three previous actors who made it to 4, the fourth is arguably the most OTT of each era: Thunderball, Moonraker and Die Another Day. (Granted, You Only Live Twice is more OTT, but TB was the most up to that point). So it would seem likely that Daniel Craig may be prepping for some trippy and ridiculously dumb mission to an alternate dimension.

I see it paralleling Sean Connery (not in order though)

Dr.NO Quantum of Solace
FRWL CR
Goldfinger SF

I believe Daniel Craig fourth will be a threat to the world at least to the west something like thunderball

That thought had crossed my mind when I first saw it.

I could back your theory. I definitely got a strong TWINE-feel from Skyfall. Both are pretty dark Bond films.

Very true. That film was the first thing I thought of when I saw the MI6 explosion back when the trailer first hit the Internet. Similar story idea (to an extent) with M's involvement. Yes, I concur. That is a very good way of putting it.

Which I would be fine with, and at this stage welcome.

What might Oscar Wilde have said? "MI6 attacked once might seem a misfortune. MI6 attacked twice, seems like carelessness". And both times with the same M in charge!

Absolutely, but I couldn't help but detect traces of FRWL-flavour in Skyfall. I have my faith in EON that Bond 24 might be Craig's TB/YOLT/TSWLM.

And YOLT is a crackin' good film!

Same actress, different version.

It's interesting to think one Dench M is still alive in the Brosnan universe.

Good point, actually. The one link between the series pre 2006 and the re-boot is Dame Judi. And amid all that stuff about re-introducing "Q", "Moneypenny" and so on - we have seen SF also cut the final tie to the pre-Craig series of films, and re-boot "M" as well. Even though he has an office that looks vaguely familiar.

Interesting theory and I think I'l agree. If I had to name the movie most similair to Skyfall it would be TWINE. The darker tone with a deeper look at the characters. They have a similair feeling at times, although I think Skyfall reminds me a bit more of the 1960's than TWINE does.

The next film might be more like Thunderball/YOLT/TSWLM/Moonraker/DAD with this ''bigger'' thing, with us perhaps learning a lot more about the Quantum organization and it's leader?

Well, it's unlikely to happen a third time now...
