A sad piece of new to wake up to for the entertainment industry, Larry Hagman who played J.R Ewing in the sensational US soap 'Dallas', died yesterday from throat cancer aged 81.

A real sad loss, and one who's legacy will live on for generations.

I have heard of this show due to the remake, but that's definitely sad. R.I.P

The old episodes are great Iceskater - pure American cheese, but a pure classic!

I remember the original "Dallas" - a TV "must see" at the time. Larry Hagman's JR Ewing was one of my favourite TV villains - he managed to mix droll wit and complete callousness into one memorable character. RIP.

I was surprised by the news of Larry Hagman's death. I didn't know he had cancer. I do remember when he needed a liver transplant in the past. I had watched him in "I Dream of Jeannie", "Beware the Blob!", "Hurricane", "Superman", S.O.B. and, of course, DALLAS (CBS 1978-91) and the current new DALLAS ( TNT 2012-present). I am so glad he was so spirited to do the new DALLAS tv series and felt well enough to do Season Two of the new series which will be broadcast this January 28, 2013. He was only able to do six episodes. They said they will write his death into the show. I read Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy were by his side at the time of death. Now that is real friendship. When I read Hagman died, the first person I thought of was Barbara Eden and then I recalled Mary Martin (NBC, Peter Pan) was his mother.
They will have to re-write the new DALLAS episodes if they haven't filmed all 15 yet. I wonder if they will have a huge funeral for "J.R. Ewing" and bring back many former DALLAS cast members, or would "J.R" want a private funeral for family only?
I won't miss any episodes of Season Two on TNT.

When I was a kid, my Friday nights revolved around Dallas. When I would go to my Dad's whatever we did revolved around Dallas being a new episode. I like the new series as well, great TV. But I think Larry Hagman should be remembered for helping people with organ transplants adjust to their situation & for being an advocate for organ donation, which I am an organ donor myself. Some of my childhood memories involve watching I Dream Of Jeannie B who can forget Larry Hagman's memorable cameo in the Richard Donner Superman Film performing mouth-to-mouth on Miss Tessmocker? I know he touched the lives of so many people, and was close to his Dallas castmates as well. My thoughts & Prayers to Mr Hagman's family in this trying time.

I did exactly the same thing, Dove. I never saw Dallas in my parents home. Only my gramdmother would have it on. I thought to myself, "if this is the way grown ups behave....". Now that I am older, I appreciate Dallas more. Larry Hagman as "J.R. Ewing" made my skin crawl and I think he may have turned into "J.R" a little bit. But his co-stars said he was a friend and had a funny side to him. I was used to seeing Larry Hagman in "I Dream of Jeannie". Larry Hagman has been my favorite in the new Dallas tv series on TNT.

I've just started watching the original 'Dallas' shows, I bought the DVD boxset out of sheer interest, and I am really loving them, more than I thought!

I've just started Season 4 and find out who shot J.R in the next few episodes, something I don't even know who did to this day! J.R is a brilliant character, and I've loved his sly scheming, manipulation and confidence oozing out of every pore. Can't wait to see his character develop, and try the new series once I've done these.

JR was one of the best baddies on TV of all time. RIP Larry Hagman, who was of course in reality a nice guy

I have great memories of watching Dallas as a kid and being fascinated, as all kids are, by the bad guy.

Wasn't one entire season simply ignored, and then later revealed as a dream?
