Bond is known as a globetrotter, and the "travelogue" is an important part of the films. SkyFall features scenes in Istanbul, Shanghai, Macau, and Scotland - in addition to London of course. Most other Bond films include several locations like this.

There are a handful, though, that are in a single location for almost the entire film (excepting the London/MI6 preliminaries and the pretitle sequence in some cases):
  • Dr. No in Jamaica
  • Thunderball in the Bahamas
  • You Only Live Twice in Japan
  • Licence to Kill in "Isthmus" (Mexico)
Several others have a couple locations, but the majority of the film is in a single setting:
  • FRWL in Istanbul/Orient Express
  • OHMSS in Switzerland
  • DAF in Las Vegas
  • Octopussy in India
Some films have suffered from too much jumping around, in my opinion: Moonraker (California, France, Venice, Brazil, "Outer Space") comes to mind.

I enjoy the multiple settings, and I think it is a good thing overall. But it might be a nice change of pace to have another Bond film that takes place in a single locale, and explores that location more completely.

Thoughts?

Agreed, I would appreciate a film with less but more meaningful locations. In SF, some of the locations are sorely underused.

Skyfall really went to three areas

Eastern Europe-Turkey
Southeast Asia-Shanghai, Macau, Japanese Island
UK-London/Scotland

I think that the Japanese Island could be used more

^You forget YOLT?

I agree with you, and they could even make a proper adaption of Fleming's YOLT.

Macau was the locale that was really underused in Skyfall. All you see of it is the inside of Bond's hotel room and the Casino boat. I think a film centered on one location would be great and a true adaptation of YOLT would be fantastic. I'm thinking for Bond 25....Shatterhand.
