Over the last 6 years I've been mildly outspoken (is there such a thing?) on how I didn't think the films needed the return of Moneypenny and Q. Casino Royale was just fine without either of them and in the last few Brosnan films the characters were either formula bringing nothing of substance, or just plain hard to watch (Cleese).

With this new realistic direction and Craig becoming my favorite Bond, my faith and adoration of the franchise had been restored. Plenty of people clamored for them both, I did not. I understood it, but feared they might become caricatures again. I occasionally voiced my concerns in other threads (and a previous board I'd been on for many years).

When it was somewhat obvious we were getting at least one of them back this time, I was ok with it. Leery, worried, whatever, but still ok. Certainly Q would be handled realistically. Wouldn't he? When I saw the clip of the museum scene, I was relieved. It appeared they nailed it. After seeing the film, it turned out they had. Q is an awesome character in the film and fits perfectly.

I had tried to stay spoiler free the final months before release, but accidentally stumbled onto Eve being Moneypenny. After seeing how they handled her return, I can honestly say that Moneypenny and Q are a huge reason why Skyfall is now my favorite 007 film of all time. Moneypenny in particular. Wow, talk about a character with substance. Not only is she the Bond Girl of all Bond Girls *swoon* - she's also part of the franchise now. Perfect.

My initial review is here. After a second viewing (with more to come), I can now say that the return of Moneypenny - a solid, deep, character, plus the return of Q - equally fitting in the new 007 world - are probably what pushed Skyfall into my top spot.

Man, was I ever wrong to question how they would handle Moneypenny and Q - very wrong -and I've never been more happy about it. With the two of them back, and back so fantastically, my Bond house in finally in order. It took a hell of a lot to push Casino Royale into the number two spot, but Moneypenny and Q did it.

Yeah I agree with you. I mean I enjoyed the direction that Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were taking, but I like how they were bringing back the classics. After all that is why I liked James Bond. I liked to hear Q and James Bond's dialogue and hear Q tell him, "Grow up 007" or "I never joke about my work" Plus I missed the flirting that Bond and Moneypenny would have. i mean those were classic characteristics to know you were watching a Bond movie. That and they brought back the classic door. It seems really dumb, but real James Bond fans would see that obvious classic item being brought back and be equally excited. That and the Goldfinger car when they brought that was also exciting because they were bringing back the car that I have always wanted.

I mean these things that were added easily puts Skyfall into being the best Bond movie in ages. I would say the best Bond since.. Goldeneye, (I would say Casino Royale but I wanted to compare Craig to another bond)

I like both characters but I am more excited by the new Q. Something about him and his word play with Bond that I want to see more of.
