Thanks for this quantumofsolace. I was particularly shocked to hear that even one of the director's wives polished one of the scripts!

Michael Apted's wife was screenwriter Dana Stevens at the time of TWINE - she did an uncredited 'polish'. They subsequently divorced. I don't for a moment mean to suggest that the two facts are in any way connected.

Apted eh? Thanks for the info, was wondering which director. Let's just say they are connected. Much more fun that way.

Also, they actually

Great interview. I'll put my hand up and admit that like many, I've put the boot into P&W at times, but it's clear from listening that they know their Fleming, have opinions like any of us, and care about the character(s). And it's good to be reminded that these films are very much a collaborative process - they seem more than happy to attribute good ideas to others rather than themselves, and so it's also fair when it works the other way (invisible car = Tamahori).

Well worth a listen.

Great interview. I'd always suspected the invisible car was far from their doing. It takes a lot of confidence and collaborative spirit to have your work torn apart and re-done by multiple stakeholders the way they have. I'm impressed. They've never received enough credit for what they've done for the franchise.

THX for the link QOS! I was never overly a fan of the title 'Skyfall' and these guys seem to say they didn't think it would sick to begin with.

Purvis: “Yeah. It’s the first two syllable Bond title, actually. Some people find that interesting (laughs).”

I thought this was amusing - presumably a reference to the hard core fan community. There was certainly some good discussion around here about the relative merits of 2-, 3-, and 4-syllable titles (just search the forums for the phrase "three syllable"). ;)

This is a terrific find--thanks for posting it. I was fascinated all the way through, and came away with a new-found respect for Purvis and Wade, whose work has obviously been subjected to the "too many cooks" treatment. I used to think that the best parts of the last few Bond scripts came from the guys brought in to polish them. Now I wonder if the scripts would have been even better if they'd been pure P&W instead.
