Daniel Craig wanted to quit Bond before Skyfall

He said in an interview with Rolling Stone "I've been trying to get out of this from the moment i got into it"
Interesting. Bet he's changed his mind now though, after Skyfall's success. But i doubt he'll do more than the next two he's contracted for.

He's probably being misquoted.

RS: Do you enjoy making Bond films?
DC: (eyes rolling) No, I've been trying to get out of this from the moment i got into it

Hmmm... over here that's called 'quitting', and it happens all the time without too much difficulty. Is it illegal in England or something? Maybe quitting the role of James Bond is the last remaining form of high treason on the books?

Sheesh. Have you guys never seen Craig give an interview? Every third answer is a leg-pull, as this obviously is.
This.
Or talking tongue-(firmly)-in-cheek.
RS: Do you enjoy making Bond films?
DC: (eyes rolling) No, I've been trying to get out of this from the moment i got into it
And this.
Frankly, if you've seen some of Craig's interviews it's pretty obvious how this was meant. There is a link to an interview with Craig, Wilson, Broccoli and Mendes somewhere around here. Every second answer is like this, how the producers persuade their director and Craig with holding a gun to the head, how the gun was only pulled halfway, so on. It's hardly rocket science to get the meaning. And this quote comes from a Rolling Stone interview. Do any of you young hoppers still actually read the Rolling Stone? They are famous for providing an atmosphere for their interviews that makes people relaxed and talking fairly free.
So this basically is... just another wasted headline, nothing else.

Exclusive! The shocking truth behind Daniel Craig's battle with alcoholism!
And when Sir Roger takes a few good-natured shots at his friend Sir Sean:
Sean Connery told Roger Moore to get stuffed!
It's called red-top journalism, and it relies on the absence of inflection. Anyone listening to these interviews would be LTAF, including the original interviewer. It's only those basing their articles on print transcripts who feel free to infer another meaning.

Seriously, Craig was unsure about playing Bond until Eon let him read the CR script. Then, he may have felt like "what have I gotten myself into?" and hoped that Miccoli would change their minds, but the money and profile are so great that he can't back out now.
Come on, media: does someone accept a lucrative, extended contract if one really wants out?

At no point has Rolling Stone Magazine published anything to this effect or has anybody else quoted directly from the claimed original article.
It's just a non-story that's gone viral.

Nothing wrong with quitting the role. But don't sign a contract for two more Bond films, and then turn around two months later and try to get out of it. That's why I think this is all a hoax, or a misquote.

That's interesting. Good for RS for clarifying this before this gets further out of hand.
Harrison Ford just been cast as James Bond. True. I wrote it on the internet.
That's right. Because no one would put anything on the internet if it wasn't true!

That joke may actually be the most disgusting joke I have ever heard.
I'll second that! Who knew Bond has such a foul mouth...

From a Collider interview a few weeks back: http://collider.com/...terview/209508/
Daniel, do you dread the potential call one day that they’re moving on with Bond?
Mendes: He can’t wait. Are you kidding? He’s desperate for the call.
Craig: No, look.
Broccoli: He’ll be waiting a long time.
Craig: I get a huge kick out of doing this and I can see doing another film. The whole point of this is they take such a chunk out of your life. I’m contracted to two, by the way, which is fairly common.
Broccoli: At least two.
Craig: That’s not what it says.
Broccoli: At least two.
Craig: I can see the next one. Beyond that, there’s so much work involved, bringing it together. I’d love to do another movie. That’s what I’m trying to say in a very roundabout way.
Broccoli: At least two.
[...]
What about the idea of doing another film, or two films?
Broccoli: At least two films.
Craig: See what I have to put up with? You don’t know the half of it.
[...]
Is there a vision for the next film?
Broccoli: No. I mean, we just finished this movie. October 8 was the first time we actually got to see this movie. And the next at least two that Daniel’s going to do – -
Craig: Jesus Christ.

Presumably not an early script extract from BOND 24.I'll second that! Who knew Bond has such a foul mouth...
